This is a good idea of a way the club can be an asset to the community. Does anyone know where to look to start something like this? I'm sure we'll be melted by tomorrow but I'd like to know where to turn for the next time.

Many of the hospitals do this thru the CERT program and by association, Amateur radio.

For the Charlotte side, there is the HEARS network which is UHF repeated for the purpose of daily HAM, but chartered to assist with this type of operation.

KD4ADL, Derrick manages HEARS and is a MEDIC dispatcher. I'll ask him how they do this.

Everything turned to ice here. We have a long hill that comes up from the lake to the top of the hill where we are. Heather came home in the 80 claiming "I love that truck" Told me about all the vehicles stuck coming up the hill that she just waited for then drove up the hill around them all.

I took a walk out front and looked down the hill. At least a dozen vehicles strewn all over the place

It's a lot more dangerous on the roads in NC due to inexperienced drivers in snowy/icy conditions.

I always found this to be the exact opposite. Over the years of working at the same company of 400+ people, the southerners always stayed home during snow. Because we know we can't drive in it!

The only ones that ventured out, were NJ/NY/PA/MA transplants, and even Northerners are not used to driving on solid ice. They're used to hard packed snow with salt and sand, that still has some traction...

Damn n'hood kids starting sledding on my new grass while I was in the shower this morning. They were done by the time I got out. I'm old.

Ya had me laughing at that one. Right there with you. Around here it is kids on ATVs, I am one of them :) I stay off private property

Best thing about the snow is that it's kept the longboarders off the street! And, Brian, I haven't yet run out shaking my fist at them. Sarah makes up for me by playing in the snow with all the kids when she's home. I've never minded them using my yard (because I can watch them plow into the ditch or a rock pile from a nice warm room inside) but I've finally got a good stand of grass going for the first time in my life.

As you can see, I pick and choose what I'm adult about!

My drive into the office in Ballantyne was interesting this morning .... not as much for the road conditions even though Lancaster Highway between Providence Road West and Ballantyne Commons was an ice skating rink, but more so for the a--hat that decided that 4 of us going 10-15 mph with 20-30 yard separation was just too slow, so he passed us in his black Accord (all 4 cars). Mind you, this is two lane road with oncoming traffic that had to go for the shoulder. Sometimes these idiots never cease to amaze me DOH
