As many of you know, I’m not new to the Land Cruiser game; this is actually number 7 in my collection. Looking back on my ownership, I realize how blessed I’ve been to have had so many truly badass Land Cruisers. Each one came with its own love-hate relationship, but every single one left its mark.

You can check my signature for the other build threads, and below are some pictures of my previous rigs.

I was lucky enough to have my first car at 16, a 1985 FJ-60 Land Cruiser, and I was instantly hooked. Unfortunately, being young and dumb, I hydroplaned and totaled it. Even so, that truck started it all.

I bought a couple of Chevrolets in between, but the itch to get back into a Land Cruiser never went away. That’s when I found my BJ-60. I genuinely loved that truck. The diesel had a ton of torque; you couldn’t speed in it (lol), but parts were hard to come by. Eventually, I sold it. But really wish I could get that one back.

Next came my FJ-80, the classic orange one that most people know me for. This one holds a lot of special memories, and I met some amazing people because of it. It was also one of my most problematic trucks: multiple head gasket issues, a motor replacement, and a lot of time and money invested. Still, the people and experiences made it worth every bit.

Then there was my FJ-60 with a Chevy 350. It didn’t last long in my fleet, but it was fun. H55 five-speed, Ranger overdrive, and a 40-gallon tank. At the end of the day, though, it just wasn’t what I wanted at that time.

That brings me to one of my all time favorites, the one I wish I could get back the most, my 100 series LX470, known as Flexus. I truly hate myself for selling this one. The memories and adventures I had in it were unlike anything else, and I think a lot of people remember me most for that truck. I invested more into this one than any other, and I have zero regrets. I still occasionally harass the current owner about selling it back to me. Maybe one day I’ll get lucky enough to get back into it.

After the 100 series, I was fortunate enough to upgrade to a 200 series. This was the perfect all around Land Cruiser: big V8, great road manners, and set up perfectly for expedition and overlanding. Front and rear ARB bumpers, a 40-gallon auxiliary tank in addition to the factory tank, skid plates, Alucab Tent, and the list goes on.

I eventually sold the 200 series and bought my childhood dream vehicle, a Ram Power Wagon. As y’all know, I built it out with the Alu-Cabin, and complete home made interior and 37s, but it never quite filled the void in my heart that only a Land Cruiser could.

Then the stars aligned, and everything worked out. I was able to get a 2026 250 series. I’ve loved each one I’ve had, but this new 250 series is slowly becoming my favorite one. With the comfort, tech, and great road manners, it's been a blast so far. I'm excited to build this one out. I have a few ideas on what route I'm going.

So this is where I'll be documenting my journey and building. So join along!

So let’s begin. I bought it on December 5 after it had been sitting on the lot for a few months. They had three Land Cruisers in the same color, but this one stood out to me because it had the Java Brown interior.

It’s a Land Cruiser with the Premium Package and sway bar disconnect. The only option it doesn’t have is the cooled box, which I’m totally fine with since I never used it in my 200 Series anyway.

The first mod was ditching the ridiculous 20s and summer tires. I scored a great deal on Marketplace for a set of 18” TRD Off-Road Premium wheels and wrapped them in 33” KO3s.

Next, I added some Rigid lighting with the RGB backlight, mounted on SDHQ brackets. Everything is powered through a Garmin PowerSwitch, so I didn’t have to drill any holes through the firewall. I also mounted my radar detector up on the rearview mirror.

Since there isn’t a standard 12V solution for dual batteries, I went with a Bluetti again. It’s mounted on a sheet of wood that’s bolted down using the factory cargo hooks. I still had enough room to add a Packout for keeping some gear organized.

That covers the major changes for now. I’m currently waiting on my Dissent Off-Road winch wiring kit, which I’ll be installing soon. Hopefully, I’ll knock that out at the same time as extending the diff breather with an ARB kit.

Your path is similar to mine. The main “I want it back” LC for me was my blue ‘84 BJ60. It was mint, rust free and I had it lifted 3” and on 33x9.50 BFG KMs. I drove it to Central America, and all over the southwest. Sold it when I was back in Whistler as the road salt would have eaten it alive.

I’m currently in the same pair as you. ‘25 LC250 and a Dodge Power Wagon.

It’s been a busy few days knocking out projects.

First up was the BulletPoint mount absolutely great kit, I’m very impressed.

Next was the Dissent Off-Road winch wiring kit. I got it done, but it was definitely a bit of a pain. Since I had some extra room, I added my ARB breather kit as well it fits perfectly. I only did the front for now; couldn’t get to the rear while on the ground.
To wrap it all up, I added hood struts.

Been a busy bee the past few weeks knocking out some projects on the Land Cruiser.

First up was installing an ARB Summit bull bar along with a Warn 10K winch with synthetic line. I also added a pair of Rigid XL lights that had been sitting around in the garage, so it was the perfect time to finally put them to use.

Next, I saw a guy on Facebook mention he was able to get a Safari snorkel here in the States. I reached out to him and he told me the company he ordered it from, and luckily they had one left in stock so I snagged it. The install was actually pretty straightforward with no major issues… as long as you’re okay with cutting into your $70k truck haha.

Lastly, I needed some lift since that ARB bumper is HEAVY and I wanted to get some of my clearance back. I went with the ALLDOGS 2” lift and honestly it turned out great. For a budget lift, I’m really happy with it and it should hold me over until I decide on a full suspension setup.

I'll be posting picture of the complete setup this evening!

Love the ARB!

Needs MOAR lights ! ;)

Congrats John. ARB looks great. Looking forward to following along another build. Hopefully I’ll get to check it out soon.

Slowly adding more haha. Here are the latest add ons: we scored a killer deal on a Prinsu roof rack off Marketplace, and of course it wouldn’t be one of my builds without adding 360° lighting. Last big thing we put on was the ARB side steps and rails. Also added one more garmin power switch. Waiting on some small loom to clean up the wiring.

Now that you've had some time with it, what are your thoughts in comparison to your previous vehicles?

After owning just about every generation of Land Cruiser, this one is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It blends modern daily driver tech with solid off-road capability really well, and the aftermarket support keeps getting better every month. That said, the smaller engine does leave me wanting more power at times, especially as I keep adding weight and mods. The turbo helps a lot, but you still notice it.

The hybrid system is actually a nice touch. Since I spend a lot of time idling, whether on the trail or sitting in traffic, it cuts down on engine wear. Plus, that little boost from the battery when taking off is a nice bonus.

I’m also really enjoying the smaller size. It makes a big difference both on tight trails and when trying to park.

My biggest complaint by far is the ridiculously small gas tank. At only 17 gallons, I absolutely hate it. I’m getting around 260 miles per tank, which is rough. I’ve got a few smaller gripes too, like the poorly placed volume knob and the lack of high-output chargers up front.

But overall, I love it, and I would buy another one. Have no regrets.

Yea, the fuel tank on our GX550 is small, and I constantly complain about it. The tank on the LC is even smaller, I can't even imagine. Surprisingly, the 200 and 250/GX550 have nearly the same exterior dimensions.

Yea gas tanks are awful. Hmm I did not know that about the dimensions. I feel like it’s skinner and not wide.
