Ya...what was the story with that crash?

Holy Moses! I hope everyone was ok.
Cuts and bruises. We seriously drive a vehicle that is incredibly safe when the shat hits the fan(well, you guys do, mines toast).!

There's a corkscrew roll while airborn and clearing an oncoming car that the pics don't denote. I'm pretty torn on this and depressed.... But talking about it and sharing seems therapeutic if anything.

Sorry about your truck, but thank god no one was injured! I showed this to my girlfriend last night and explained to her why I bought the truck I did. She's more convinced than ever now, lol.

Also, bought the $30 snorkel. Wish I still lived in CA to pickup, but $60 total ain't bad!

No noticeable difference with the Toyota OEM version. I have both an outdoor temp sensor mounted at the front bumper, and an OBD reader that shows intake air temp. The difference between the two has always consistently been 4-5C before and after my snorkel install.

That's interestin, at least for me I saw a 10F drop and more on really hot days. SC people saw even higher reduction.

OMG! Glad you walked away from that!

Thanks buddy!

All the forklifts at work have been retrofitted with snorkels.

Dried up California drought has made the steel yard a dust bowl.

I traverse quite a few miles of dirt road every weekend in my 80 (prior to crashing it)and then if I did encounter any water the accumulation on the filter and tuna can became a cement like clay prior to the snorkel.

I realize there's the stereotype and jokes because these are found on many trucks that have fake bead lock wheels and winches that aren't even wired up... But the silly thing keeps the tuna can clean, if anything.

i live in yuma and does the snorkel really make THAT much difference in engine temps? or should i say intake temps? out in the canyons and hills it gets into the 140s sometimes but usually its in the 130s. will it make that much difference? i knew guys to have snorkels but they all took them off...

Yeah...I'll take one! I live right down the street in Upland.

The shop is in La Verne, right next to White and 1st street. Anyhow, I live in Ontario and work in San Dimas. Where are you located? I have the white 80 with the bronze Stealth Series. It's almost my daily driver, so we've probably crossed paths at some point. I get asked about it at almost every gas station and Home Depot trip!

TMS Snorkel showed up this morning. Initial inspection looks really good. I see very little difference between this TMS snorkel and the Safari ones I've had in the past. Obviously it doesn't have "Safari Snorkels" embossed in the body so it's a smooth exterior but the plastic is thick and looks to be well formed with no flaws that I could find. I haven't had time to install it yet or check the template for accuracy so I can't report on fitment quality yet. But for now it seems like $40 well spent. :)

This is good to hear. I ordered my Chinese snorkel off of amazon this week.

first complaint of the chinese snorkel, these were the only screws that came installed from the factory...

Do you recall why they took them off? I'd need a pretty good reason to remove the snorkel after putting the holes in my fender. I can certainly imagine not buy another snorkel if I changed rigs at some point, but taking it off?

I guess I need to look in my snorkel box the see what I bought. Not real happy to see rusted hardware come out of your box. Then again I suppose I anticipated some reduction in quality control, when I paid $70 (shipped) for a $400 part.

wasn't rusted out of the box, but after the first rain i noticed it. may want to change them out, they are the two screws that hold the cage on the front. On another note after 2 days of driving in the rain/snow I don't notice any moisture in the air cleaner.
