We would see as much as a 30* difference with on the v8's running a snorkel

Got it in today. No instructions at all. The template is crap. I'm going to have to make my own.
I was just about to pull the trigger and then I saw the $30 shipping charge. Its really only a few bucks savings over the regular price on dorkels.
This one is $67 shipped and they are $69 shipped all the time on ebay.
But this one is through Amazon which has much much much better customer service. And it's 2 bucks cheaper.

I have mine already. The template sucks. Is the whole for the tube at least in the right spot on the POS template? I can do the rest I just want to make sure I get that first bigass whole cut correctly.

I bought a Chinese http://amzn.com/B00E4J611U snorkel off of Amazon for $140 shipped. The actual snorkel body, and intake are made of a decent quality plastic. The hardware in all stainless steel and also good quality. As mentioned before, the template is "off" slightly so measure and correct this before drilling holes.

I used a 4" hole saw and drilled the mount holes slightly larger than the stud diameter to give myself some adjustment room.

Install was uneventful and took about 2hrs. The elbow that joins the snorkel body to the air filter housing is a bit awkward to install. Unbolting the air box from the inner fender helps. I also unbolted the cruise control actuator to get a better angle to put my arm thru the inner fender in order to tighten mounting nuts.

If you guys have any questions, I'd be happy to help. I can take some better pictures of the snorkel also.

Just ordered one of the TMS kits from Amazon. Hopfully have it this week. I'm curious to see what the quality is like compared to the Safari Snorkel. It doesn't look like it comes with instructions or a template. Anyone have a good lead on a template that works with these? How close is it to the Safari one?

I didnt use the template when I installed mine. This was how I did it.
1. Drilled 3-1/2" hole
2. Put the top 3 bolts on the snorkel and applied nail polish (or paint) on the tip of each bolt and lined up on the fender to see where each hole is and drilled away.
3. put the bottom 3 bolts on and do the same.

I think this is what I'll do

So, some simple digging around, I found out the guy that sells the TMS snorkel on Amazon and eBay is located north of Pomona.
I called and talked to a rep, he said I can order and pick it up to avoid the $30 shipping...
So Anyone in Santa Ana or Downtown LA area want one? I'm assuming we will have to pay tax which is about $4.5 + $38 = $42.5

Yeah...I'll take one! I live right down the street in Upland.

Intake temp reduction is very noticeable!

No noticeable difference with the Toyota OEM version. I have both an outdoor temp sensor mounted at the front bumper, and an OBD reader that shows intake air temp. The difference between the two has always consistently been 4-5C before and after my snorkel install.

How did you guys secure the rear 2 bolts and did you guys actually rivet into the pillar I was thinking of making a clamp for the gutter... I need to remove the antenna too now cause it's a bit in the way well the template was off...

Stupid question, are the cheap ones as good as ARB? I want one, but don't want a total POS.

Chinese snorkels are quite resilient a in real world testing...

Not even in the same ballpark money wise but I think when I do snorkel I will just save my clams and get an OEM from @ranma21 . They look fantastic and have a shorter tube down the fender side.
Funny, that's the very reason I don't like the OEM one. I think the short tube on the fender looks incomplete.

I'm in. I live in Montebello, work in Whittier. Pomona is 30 minutes from here.

installed mine yesterday, found the center of the hole about 1/4 lower than on the template. I measured the alignment of the hole and lined it up with the groove in the fender. I used nutserts in the a piller. I had to make the holes in the bracket bigger as they didn't line up. I also didn't put in the 2 bolts that are closest to the a pillar end to hard to get in. Other than that took about 3 hours and was pretty straightforward.
