Smells like $$$$$$$$$$$ ...lol

Nice and congrats to you.

Can't wait to see the build.

That looks really nice!

You going to install a set of Marks4WD split case crawler gears ta boot? ;)

I'd love to trade you, mines a little noisy. It makes for a pretty sweet setup. What are you going to do with the tranny tunnel?

Unleashed a new smell today myself.....

Not sure yet. What did you have to do to yours? I'm a ways off from fitting, etc. as I am yet to secure a split case. Does the split case have the same bolt pattern on the back as the 3 speed case? I was thinking maybe I could use the 3 speed rear tranny mount and modify it as the rear mount for the split case. Obviously I'm willing to start from scratch if that would be best.

Dom,

Here is the P/brake components needed......

shaft.....# 36231-60030
bearing retainer housing.....# 36132-60030
brake drum.....# 46501-60030

you can reuse the existing backing plate and hardware.... but a longer cable will be needed.... other options are out there...but just some stuff to ponder on....

I'd sure like to get myself a source of that aroma. Where did you fellas get yours? PM me if you like.

Andy

I ended up making a small "dog house" on top of the stock tranny tunnel so I could raise the tranny/x-fer for more ground clearance. It sits up maybe 2" above where the stock tunnel sits. I took the heater out because I never used it (Florida). I could have picked it up higher but didn't wnat to take out the rear crossmember. As far as mounting I adapted a stock crossmember like 1973guppie suggested. PM me with an e-mail and I can send some pictures.

Bret-
Thanks. I have some pics you sent me a year ago or so. The conversion looks good. I'm finally getting around to this project. I'm thinking I will not modify the tunnel if possible. If it sits a little lower so be it. (I say that now right?) I suppose we'll see when I get that far. Still trying to source the split case but have a few good leads. No one seems too interested in snapping shots of the INSIDE of the case. I'm sure I'll have a ton more questions as I go. Trying to decide on the Downey vs AA bellhousing.

I don't think the rear of the split case is the same as the 3spd(probably wrong). I'd have to go dig a 3spd out of the trailer to see. I don't think it would be ideal though. You would have the rear of the drive train hanging on the back half of the transfer case. It is all aluminum held together with bolts and pins unlike the one piece cases. The mount under the transmission is pretty easy to place and takes quite a load off the transfer case. Puts the stress more on the iron tranny case.

Grant-
Thanks for the tip. I suppose it would be much cheaper for me to buy them seperately than as a MAF kit, etc. Just tried to price those part #'s and got no love from Toyota Dealer (They say bad #'s). Any other #'s?
Thanks

You'll have to find a more cooperative dealer.... the part #s are non-US........ but obtainable.....

just for an alternative to the t-case p-brake...

you might consider getting a '79 and up 40 axle with the rear drum park brake. getting all that park brake crap to work on the t-case cost me more than had i gone to rear disks with park brake. the late model axles will be all toyota and give you a stronger park brake anyway.

at some point, i will be selling my park brake split case and getting a late model 40 axle as a replacement. works better and will get me a little longer driveshaft. i have had too many frustrations with my t-case brake.
