Andy-

Unfortunately I'm afraid I'm going to have to just $OR or MAF it for $500. I want to keep the ebrake as close to original as possible and I am unable to source the parts anywhere else.

Just got the split case and the tranny mount so as soon as I get a few more parts I'm going to start the build thread. I'll keep you posted.

Parts listing

Ok so here's the current list of stuff needed for this conversion ('73 FJ40 w/ SBC and 3 speed to H55 5 speed) ... anyone chime in if you think something is out of whack.

1. H55 Tranny (I believe I need to tap and plug something... I'll do that when I get to that step). Toyota Part#33030-60450. (Have)

2. Tranny Shifter (Toyota part#33530-60160) (Have)

3. Tranny Mount- FJ60 tranny mount (Have)... and bushing (Toyota part# #12371-61031) on order

4. Split Case (from an 87 FJ60 w/ shift linkage) (Have)

5. Transfer Case Gasket kit (SOR#068-60E) (Need) Bearings and shaft are in excellent shape. Oh... and SOR says I need Trsfr seal (#068-03B)

6. Driveshaft yoke flanges from an fj60 (SOR #092-03L-U) to mate up to my FJ40 Driveshafts. (Need) I'm assuming these can connect to my driveshafts via the standard FJ40 U joint?

7. Custom driveshafts (length adjustment)

8. Bellhousing- AA or Downey (#331F4) 4 speed to V8 (leaning towards the Downey as it is shorter) (Need)

9. Clutch Components-
Disc: 4 speed Toyota clutch disc (Need)
Pressure Plate: 11" low profile GM or Centerforce (Need)
TO Bearing: 4 Speed Toyota TO bearing. (Need)
Clutch Fork:4 speed Toyota clutch fork (Have)
Slave Cylinder and slave mount: Original Toyota clutch slave (shortened rod) from my 3 speed to V8 conversion. (Have)

10. Longer speedo cable (Not sure what I need here... '73 FJ40 factory speedometer to split case.) (Need)

11. Parking Brake conversion kit (SOR# 068-100CB-Kit)

12. Exhaust: Custom exhaust with:
GM Rams horns w/ center down spout
Crossover pipe(OEM application is 58-66 Chevy pickup with a 283 engine). The NAPA crossover pipe is 42087 (it is Walker #)

13. Motor Mounts: AA or Downey SBC motor mounts. (Not sourced yet).

If I'm missing something please chime in... Bret, Poser, Kurt, Dave?

Thanks,

Dom

If I remeber right I got my flanges from Cruiseroutfitters, i got the whole flange/ujoint/female splines all as one piece. So if the u-joint doesn't fit the splines do. Might have to check for balance etc. though. You may not need front and rear, maybe just the front. I can't remember for sure, Ive slept since then.

Does the e-brake cable have the right ends?

Hmmm... I'll have to check into the flanges. I have 10 or so driveshafts laying around so maybe I have what I need.

As for the speedo cable I don't know what I need. The cable I have now clips on at the speedometer unlike the screw-on PITA I had on my 71. So maybe a clip on extra long cable is what I need. Anyone know if the ends at the TCase are all the same?

Its late but a couple of things caught my eye:

Driveline patterns:

You can't just swap the end yokes on the drivelines to the later pattern, the U-joints were smaller in 73' than they are in the later years. You have a couple options... make a "mutt" driveline OR if your split-case has the round flanges (which it should in 87') simply press the studs out, clock everything 45 degrees and redrill, press in the studs for your new pattern. Patterns are all here:

Speedo Cable: I've got a 3 different lengths (assuming your 73' has the clip-on @ the speedo). That shouldn't be an issue. I have the measurements listed here: http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/engineparts.html

Hope that helps... I'll look at this again when I'm awake :D

Thanks Kurt. I'll definitely be ordering a cable from you once things are lined up. I knew I had seen these somewhere but lost them in the memory bank. Do you have the Transfer Case Gasket Kit mentioned above w/o the bearings, etc.? I'd much rather source this stuff from you. How about the Split Case PBrake kit?

I think I'll take your recommendation on re-drilling the flange bolt pattern to stay away from Frankenstein driveshafts.

Anyone see any other potential problems with the list above?

drum brake kit

does anyone know if someone is still selling the drum brake/h55 kit?

my prob is I am in the UK so other options are limited for the p-brake

someone suggested 60 axle with park brake---rare but looking into that but 40 axles will be even harder to find here if I was looking for one with a parking brake probably even more so

swapping in a 1HD-t with a H55

have any new options surfaced?
