So this is my new small engine project. Brought home by my lovely wife this afternoon. She is VERY excited about it.

I'm just impressed that your "wife" brought that home!

She is definitely a keeper. She is super excited about getting the 2 married and I'm confident she will assist as much as she can. Hell, check out the pictures in the early pickup thread of the 86 custom cab she wants for daily driving. She helped me rebuild her 87 Sami a few years ago. Definitely blessed.

P.S. it was 100% all her. I was home watching the little :princess: all day yesterday.

This thread sounds like the perfect place to post this...

Check out this bad boy. My grandfather made it 100% from scratch. He's a retired machinist plus he grew up in the Great Depression, so absolutely nothing goes to waste.

This has to be 45-50 years old now. It is probably the worlds first zero turn riding mower.

It has car parts, house parts, scrap metal, wood, coffee cans...

The side safety guards boxing in the deck are a relatively recent addition. Safety wasn't really a thing back in the day.

The mower came home with me today (my grandfather had some health issues that necessitated being moved to an assisted living facility.) It's too cool to be scrapped or given away in the estate sale, and I was the logical choice to be the custodian.

This thing is 100% built from scratch with scrap and salvage parts. The tires and motor were the only things bought new.

It has a 3 spd car transmission, an old steering wheel, billiard ball shifter, plywood decking, 2x lumber, bailing wire, flat head screws, and several belts and chains. Lots of brazing, zero welding.

Pretty sure that's a tin can.

Chain drive rear steer:

(Rumored to be) original spark plug. To shut the engine down, you "ground" the spark plug with the flap of sheet metal.

Lots of bailing wire and odd pieces of structure holding it all together...

It starts on the first pull.

That is AMAZING!

Cam you win the whole week! Damn that's cool! Is it a death trap to mow with?

Total death trap! We were joking that is has more OSHA violations than a Russian submarine.

Cam, I sure would love to be your next door neighbor!

I can hear Amanda now...

What the hell kind of three-wheeled go kart is Cam tearing up his yard with?

Me...

I'm headed over to see if he'll let me take a spin on that bad ass death trap!

Got a new set of IROKS mounted up :grinpimp:

Old street slicks:

Summbich'll dig now:

This thing is actually a bush hog disguised as a mower. It sliced and diced through two feet of vines and weeds like a hot knife through soft butter.
