Spent a good 1.5 hours working on this one. Needed carb rebuild, air filter, oil change, blade service, new bushings in the front axle, and new drive cable. The cable took around 45 minutes to install; it's almost like Troy-Bilt did not ever intend for it to ever need fixing.

Let me guess: the gear was stripped?

Had that happen to a customer a few weeks ago. Replacement gearbox was $60. He decided to abandon the mower.

Yep, have installed 2 of those. If you haven't put it in yet, see if one from about 2008 or so looks the same for fit - they take wheels w/ metal gears instead of the crappy plastic ones in current versions. The one I put in my 2008 Toro is happy, the one in the newer version still eats the wheel gears. Both however will eventually puke the little gear box again. After replacing the second one, I let an engineering manager at Exmark Toro that I met when I was at Parker know just how far they'd fallen in product design.

Yup, they suck.

And since we're on the subject of sucky rear axles: About 80% of the hondas that come in for carb work also have rear wheels that can't be rotated backwards. There is a spring loaded ratcheting mechanism in each wheel that clogs with grease/dust, and will not ratchet anymore. Terrible terrible design.

This one is from 2006 or 7, and has the metal gear in the wheels.

This is the first problem I've had out of it besides hitting a stump and bending the crank! i thought it was going to grenade from that last year, but seems to have smoothed out a bit.

Looking for recommendations (or what to steer clear of) for a curved shaft string trimmer. We have a good straight shaft one, but need need one a little smaller and lighter for E.

Need a little assistance from the small engine gurus.

MS250 Stihl saw, about 6 years old or so. Has always fired up in a few pulls. No start.

I got a "tune-up" kit and replaced the plug, air filter and in-tank fuel filter. Still no start. When I go to start it after a few pulls I smell fuel. When the plug is removed there is fuel in the cylinder and on the plug, seems like it isnt getting fire. Also, fresh fuel in the tank.

I'm gonna google on it, but thought i'd throw it up here to see if any of you could offer some additional tips. @MScruiser @BOSS man @D'Animal

Thanks in advance

Wanted:
CHEAP Snapper (or other) rear engine riding mower.

I'd like one of the higher horsepower models (10+). It can be in rough shape.
I plan on using it to mulch up the rough areas of the yard where my lawn service fears to tread.
I'm talking weeds and sticks and maybe small logs. I had one I got for free that did an awesome job; but it was stolen.
