figured you'd be working all night and day to get it all bolted on and show it off this weekend.

If it was completely finished and painted when it arrived I would be, but I won't even drive the 62 until that o ring is replaced so I wanna get that all squared away. Then I'll get that sexy bumper installed haha.
I am gonna miss that little 1 1/4" tow receiver lol!

Woke up earlier than usual, so I figured id get a couple hours of cruiser work done in preparation for tomorrows bumper modifying and tcase reseal.

I wanted to get all the worst parts done today so that tomorrow we'd just be able to dive right in, so i took the stock bumper off and ground the crossmember rivets off and smashed them out. Then when i ran out of usable grind wheel i decided to just cut the rest of the crossmember off and worry about making it pretty later.

Old and busted.

New and hotness.

Yeah.. its not even close to being on all the way...

Are FJ60 body mount brackets farther inward than FJ62's?

Ill weld the mount to the outside of the frame tomorrow then grind down the 4 remaining rearmost rivets. Having a welder turns giant headaches into non issues. I freaking love it.

One more just because.

If i can get everything finished tomorrow, most likely so, ill drop it off at ACC to be powder coated :flipoff2:

Spent last week thinking, "hey I've been inside the split case before, this o ring replacement is gonna be a 3 hour job.. tops!" yeah... took more than 3 hrs.

So, the easiest part, taking everything apart.
I was able to lower the tcase, remove the rear half, and get down to the tranny/tcase seal without issue. When i got in there i found that the oring was the original triangular shaped factory one, and also that it was cracked to **** and hard as a rock... can't imagine that doing a very good job a sealing so i replaced it with a new one i got from ACC.

Heres the chunk i was trying to manhandle back into position, it just really didn't want to cooperate with me this time...

Finally gave up, and decided to whip out my handy dandy FSM... wish i had done it sooner. Turns out lining gears up one at a time, is a lot easier than trying to line up EVERY GEAR all at once lol. So on they go.

HOPEFULLY a happy split case.

Just need to clean everything up so i can tell if this thing wants to leak again.. I mean look how nice and relatively clean everything was the day i got Woody a couple years ago... ****s gross now lol.

Anyway, while i was messing with the tcase, Aidan was doing something to help get that tire out of the trunk area.

He started off by welding the latch nuts to the inside of the swing out arm so that he could weld the opening shut.

Came out really good in my opinion.

When i looked at the quarter guard pieces and the bumper, it seemed they wouldn't line up straight, I should've sent Jason a PM earlier because he managed to come up with a solution pretty much instantly lol. Anyway, i let Aidan get a little creative with the end caps because i didn't want the bumper to just sort of end, it needed a little extra. He cut up some card board and roughly mocked up what he was going to do.

It was the only tape we had!!!!!!! LOL

Aidan also welded a long horizontal strip along the bottom of the bumper so that when it comes down on a rock, it won't hit the edge of a piece of plate and possible bend... I did that to Aidan's front ARB a couple weekends ago lol.

The arm isn't on fully, but that looks SO FREAKING GOOD!!! we still need to weld up Aidan's end caps, and the rotopax mount off to either the right or left side of the tire, and maybe even a hi lift mount. idk... ill decide by this weekend so that i can hurry up and get it off to paint next .

It sets the truck off so well. i can't put into words how happy i am with it.

Cant see ****! Its perfect!!!

Temporary tag placement. Don't wanna get pulled over lol.

Overall, this weekend went really well. I at least got the tcase done, so i can drive the truck around and not worry about destroying my transmission. And the bumper work is mostly finished, so I'm super happy :D

I like the rear bumper, now you can get bigger tires.

Glad you posted the pic looking out the back window. That was going to be my first question, "can you see anything behind you?"

I have a feeling im gonna get that question a lot... I should get a bumper sticker or something that answers that question haha.

looks good patrick, now pull a leaf and lets wheel it.

When the bumpers done and I get brakes on all 4 corners, I'll be 100% ready!

Bought a pretty helpful "gift certificate" to Onur's dealership today from a mud member in Louisiana today, so that should get me about a forth of the way there for all the new brake stuff. couple more pay checks and ill be good to go :D

lol thanks for the PM!

Spent all Saturday watching Aidan fix the rear bumper up the way i wanted it. I didn't do the quarter guards unfortunately. It would've taken way too long and it wouldn't have worked or looked very good.

Instead, we added small wing extensions to the backside of the bumper to give it some depth. I think Aidan did a freaking awesome job lining up the metal and making them look like a single piece, instead of multiple pieces welded together. He's getting really great at fabricating.

So we cut out the pieces, got them into place...

Then added the top rounded piece...

And gussetted the insides of the wings for strength and the bumper shell to keep it from caving in on itself...

Then ground the welds down to make it look nice pretty...

Then, yesterday, rattle canned it black!!!!!! Don't worry PC haters, this is only temporary lol. Got a wheeling trip in a couple weeks and it needs paint for that. I used krylon satin black, but i don't really like it very much. Too dull.

Its a nice 15 foot paint job.

Lifting that tire fawking sux. Needs a hub to slide onto so that Im not trying to line the tire up and instead pushing the bolts out the back. I know i have a bunch of spare wheel studs somewhere in my garage that ill weld to the tire resting plate... the nuts that came are doing a real number on the rim, they really needed to be conical shaped.

Quick change of venue.. And i never realized how many millions of tons of Pb it took to balance these things. Square as hell hahaha.

Mmmm profile shot...

sexy, and good job to Adain for his fab skills. Now what? I think you're gonna run out of excuses perty soon.

Well i haven't replaced the brakes yet. i still need a couple weeks to maka da money, then that weekend to actually do the work :D
Besides don't you have a cab to swap in the meantime!

And thanks, yeah AIDAN is getting really good lol.

Edit: Oops forgot I'm going to Windrock Nov.7

LOL! yeah well i just figured you could use a little help after trying every conceivable wrong option.
Yes we will help out, it sounds like a lot of fun. Starting this weekend? i think woody's finally done for the time being.

Just got some new coax in the mail today, so now ill at least have CB again... even if i can only talk to Adran.

Part 1 of 3 (maybe)
A few of us southerners went on a short trip up to Windrock this past weekend to make up for my pussified wheeling attempt at Chocco a month or so ago. And as it turns out this truck isn't nearly as scary after you learn its limits... who'd a thought haha. I found myself actively looking for the biggest rocks, the hardest lines on "black" trails (which weren't exactly that that difficult), and the most cross axley ruts. And to top it all off, the weather was perfect and the leaves were BEAUTIFUL.

Sam Stewart got to bring out his newest truck, his fast-as-s*** V8 4th gen. He's got big plans for it, but that doesn't stop him from doing a little pre completed thrashing. This wasn't even one of the more difficult trails we rode, but the side by side group that passed us coming down, could hardly believe the 4runner was making it up!

Then it was my turn..

This was one of Dana's first times out, and we definitely took him up some things i sure wouldn't have tried so soon hehe (pictures to come later). but he did really well and didn't damage anything.

Will (mhslacrosse22) in his superbly built FJ heading up first so that he can take some shots of the rest of the crew from above (will post his pictures at the end)

Caught back up and at it again.

Jordan (80offroad), a ridiculously nice guy, took his basically stock FJ (rear locker and 33s) up everything i did and more. He isn't afraid to push that thing to its limits, because hey... "ITS A TOYOTA!"

Perty treees!
