Good old days , Mom would have a water soaked wash rag to cool us off on a road trip , Ah yes 50s & 60,s No Ac .
Thanks for the road trip pictures , Scraps ?

Made it home today with no major problems. I believe there's an exhaust leak by the motor, another day's problem. Good to be back, here's a happy face...

Hard to see, but her face is full of our country's finest bugs.....It takes guts to do that. :)

In 1963, my family of 5 in a galaxy 500 drove from Newfoundland to California. My sister and I occupied 1/2 of the back seat. The other half was piled high with luggage.
The cheap motels back then had a picnic table and grill for each room. Never once ate at anywhere but out of the back of the car or at the picnic table. A canvas water bag hung in front of the radiator and the tube air conditioner on the passenger side, the kind you pull a string every once in a while to let the water soak the the inside of the cooling element.
We were lucky enough that my dad showed us almost every major wilderness attraction on the way, i.e. salt lake, old faithful, 4 corners, the great divide. I kept asking why every motel had a room that said "off ice". Still don't to this day, although I do know where to find the ice now.

Pig Parties are filling in the holes.

19 days on the road, glad to hear you on the home stretch with no issues.

What's the last thing that goes thru a bugs mind when he hits the blinker of a pig?
His ass.

The front end of a pig is a deadly place for flying creatures. Felt like I should have had a vigil after I got home.

Started the clean up and checking over things. I found the exhaust leak, once again the header collector gasket blew out. I believe that's the fourth time and three of times I had my exhaust guy check alignment, etc. before putting new gaskets. I've tried different type gaskets and still they blow. I'm going to pull it all out, cut off the three bolt flanges and weld on V clamps.

Question... I want more front axle travel, right now the u joint flange will touch (without the bump stop) the exhaust pipe that crosses over under the oil pan ( chevy ). So, I'd like to run the pass. side pipe down and outside the frame then cut back in behind the transfer case. One problem is I'd have to go under the frame or through it to connect back up with driver side. Any opinions? Thoughts?

Checked trip miles, a tad over 4,000 and averaging between 13 and 14 MPG. I'm hoping that "lean bank" code was due to the exhaust leak.

V band clamps are awesome, you’ll be happy I think.

Sounds like a tough nut on the exhaust routing, coming under the frame will have some drawbacks For ground clearance I’d think :hmm:

My single exhaust from the SBC is routed outside the frame and runs all the way back on the driver side to exit in the stock location. Have center dump manifolds into a Walker tube crossover, then custom from there back. No issues for 13 years now other than some melted soundproofing on the floor quickly remedied with a heat shield over the muffler. Duh!
If you want I’ll try to get some pics. The Frankencruiser hasn’t been out of the garage for several months. I’m running an older TBI 350 so it may not be apples to apples with your Vortec.

@landcruisnman routed in front of the engine.

I see a lot of ppl fussing over the cross over pipe. Is it that hard for everyone to go dual to the back? I had no issue.
Contemplating dual to the back as well on a build i am doing LS (different truck). Keeps it simpler. Breaths a little better. Sounds better😁. Just have to mind where fuel and brake-lines route to the rear.

What gaskets are you using and do you use locking hardware?
I've tried three different types, one was a pure copper gasket and the others were cork? and metal combo. The nuts were the problem on the first go round, so tried some threaded rod connectors with a set screw in the end, this wasn't my idea, but they seem to work and stay tight. I never had problems with my old 327 in the 40, so instead of fighting the 3 bolt I'm wanting to cut them off and weld on the V clamp.

My problem with that is the transfer case shifter rods on the pass. side. There's no room to run back inside the frame. I would have to run outside then under the frame or through the frame to connect to driver's side. I'd rather not have dual exhaust all the way back.

I guess I could run under the shifter rods, but would expose it to rocks, etc. I'll go take another look.

Felt around while it was cooled down and found a loose bolt, one of the threaded rod connectors. The idea was it acted as a nut and then you screwed a set screw into it and locked into the end of the bolt. I did buy a set of those special collector locking bolts, but never used them, maybe now. Here's one of the old failed gasket with the wire mess inside of it. What else could I try?

I looked at this again and in order to make that work the pipe would be under the frame anyhow. The transfer case rods are right there and my trans. mount/skidplate below them. I could redesign the mount/ skidplate so at least the pipe would be protected, an option.
