Here's one of the Bellcrank, do the springs, look to be in the right way.

Does anyone know of something, to put on the rotors, that keeps the rust at bay. I won't be driving this for awhile and they're already starting to rust.

Spent Sunday afternoon, mounting the OME springs and axles. Nice to have a rolling frame again. Now I have to get some wheels and tires!

Next up, was the power steering box. FJ60, but didn't know a thing about it, so I thought I would try to rebuild it. Oh man, what did I get into now!

Well, It wasn't too bad, I would like to do another one , now that I've learned a few things. Got it done and mounted, Now on to the Transfer Case.

I was told this split case is from a FJ62, not sure what year. Does it matter as far as rebuild kits, etc.

The plan is to bolt it up to the H55 and hang a PTO box on it, for the winch. Good plan, yes

Pablo,

Yes, I have the whole system. PTO to the winch. The PO had everything ready to go, hope it bolts up.

don't think the two posters after this are aware of what you're asking. por15 should not be put on the rotors. no heavy duty paints should

rotors come with cosmoline on them, but that isn't soemthing everyone has sitting in the garage. i've used cheap rattle can paint in a thin layer, let dry, assemble and then be sure to brake clean off before you drive it. anything oily (oil, wd40, etc) also works, but i wouldn't put the caliper with pads on if the rotor was oily as it can ruin your pads

Sorry if I confused anyone, about the rotors. I never had to store new rotors before and didn't think anything could be put on them. The Chassis Saver was used on the frame and axles.

Good idea on the calipers, they don't need to be there yet. I guess a light coat of paint, wouldn't soak into the metal as much as any oils would. Easier to remove.

Thanks, Ron

62 Tcase more betta. There is the vacuum shift module, which can be done away with(using bits from and 86-87 Tcase) 62 case can go behind H55. They have bearing supported gears on the output shaft rather than bushing supported. Also lower lo gear. bigger idler and less time on earth. Georg will know exactly which case kit you will need.

Lambcruiser,

I didn't realize, I had a good one. Georg has already sent me, the twin stick shifters. I'll call and get a rebuild kit.

Thanks, Ron

Not sure if all 62s had the large 38mm idle shaft. Toyota is famous for reusing previous year's stuff.

And yes, Georg will know what you need and will set you up. Always love dealing with him.

On the vacuum pod, I'm kind of partial to it... much smaller than the one piece case version.

Very easy to rebuild the split versus the one piece. Also quieter.

yes yes and yes. I too kept the vacuum shift. My 62 was a sept 87 build date and it has 38mm idler. I think they 34 was last used in 85 and maybe a few vehicles in the couple years after.

FYI, the output gear bearings(captured needle roller half shells)are NOT included in the rebuild kit. I reused mine, but if I'd had the fundage, would have sourced new ones for pieces of mind. when using this case, 2lo is as simple as unpluging the lo drive switch...

also, my 62 case has the pto gear(so should yours) and 2.29:1 lo gear range

Thanks Guys,

Maybe here's why, I got a transfer case, in with the deal. Started taking it apart and found this hole. Bottom of a bolt hole at @ 9 o'clock. @ 3 o'clock, on the second shot. Looks like something came apart inside and nicked some stuff.

Think it could be welded. I'm not set up for Alum., so would have to farm it out.

Everything else looks good, no noticeable wear, etc.

Opinions:

it CAN be welded, or you might hit up Georg for a newish backhalf...that upper bolt hole backing looks like it might be cracked...

Got ahold of Georg, today and we're putting a list together! :)

Alittle tig welding on that hole, should be good to go. Everything else is in good shape.

Clean it up some and see what I can do with this mess!

Ron,
Sorry, kinda going back a few posts here...but upon rereading your thread I wanted to ask about the PS gearbox.
What troubles did you run into? Is this a part worth rebuilding or is some play in a steering system 25+ years old just to be expected.

I'm still jealous of all your great work; inspiring attention to detail.

Thanks,
Travis.-
