I have this great big roll of neoprene sheet. It's about 1/8"thick, and it is what I am going to use between all my metal panels-like the roof support channel.

That's something like I had in mind, but I'm going with the seam sealer. How are you fastening it, glue, silicone?

Nice.....

Thanks for the post. It motivated me to get back over to your page...I was also on your H55 to 5.3 thread. I am glad to see that the final post ID's the Mark's adaptor; that's what I've kinda been heading toward this whole time so it's nice to know someone else is asking the questions and getting the same answers. :bounce:

I certainly haven't made the body progress that you have - what I wouldn't give for the space, rotisserie, and know how to get all that way down to bare metal! Maybe, maybe...

I think I'll have the engine from BD in a month or so. I enjoy doing a lot of things but wondering if the engine I've bought (i.e eBay, C-list, etc) will even run is not one of them!

I'll tell ya'. I don't even want to breath on the new H55 much less start torquing bolts into it and running it...but I'll get to it sooner or later.

Good show man. keep it up.

best,
Travis.-

I wanted to update my project alittle. Forgot to post the picture of the new pig on here, so here are some of it and a few more.

I'm at a crossroad with the ring and pinion gears. I'm useing FJ60 axles, which have the 3.70 gears, you all know I have the H55 transmission and a 5.3 vortec and I'm going with 33 to 34 inches skinnies. This will not be a rock climber, just a backwoods camper and highway traveler, so do I keep the 3.70's or go lower, 4.11's.

I have not taken the pumpkins out yet, so I'm not sure how the gears look. Air locker is going in the back and open front. Let me know what you're thinking.

I'm finished with the roof, it has one coat of Zero Rust, two coats of Lizard Skin Sound deadener and two coats of the Lizard Skin Ceramic Heat Control. If you ever get a chance to watch their video on these products, do so, it really works, I can thump the roof, now and just get a big dud! no ringing. here you go

I forgot the picture of the new 71. I would like to thank Georg, of Valley Hybrids, for towing it to Az., so I could pick it up and bring it back to Mo. It has all the little things, I need.

Well, I got an update. Decided to put an ARB air locker, in the front, also. Finally got it and also decided to use Longfield axles, with the ARP studs, on the knuckles and hubs. Longfield hub gears , too. Somebody stop me!!

The back ARB, is on back order, for a couple weeks.

I went with 4.11 gears, hope they work out. I'm going to run 33's

Got alot of parts, in the shop, waiting. Booster, Master Cyl., Clutch Master and slave, etc. Their turn is coming :)

Finally, got the rear ARB. I think the pattern looks good. While I was waiting, decided to start the front rebuild. All the parts, I've bought, forgot the wheel bearings  . Quick call to Kurt at cruiser outfitters and they're on the way. I got tired and took a nap!

Lil' John,

I'm hoping the OME springs, should give me @ 2 1/2 or 3 inches lift. Also the truck came with a 2 inch body lift, I don't want to use it, but maybe I could use a 1 inch body lift and it wouldn't look too bad. Put all this together with a Camaro pan, it might make it. What do you think?

I didn't think about the 60 axle, being wider, that might help. The plastic engine cover, really doesn't matter to me, so I can hack on that. The Old Man Emu springs are new, but I didn't buy them. I think, they are the Heavies.Should give me some room there.

I've got alot to do, before engine placement. Rebuild the transfer and pto cases, first.

Thanks Man, all suggestions are welcome.

I started puttting the front axle together, today. Everything was going good, all the new parts were fitting just right, until I got to the spindle. The new studs were good and I put in new brass bushings, just to cover it all. I was feeling good about it all, then it all went down hill. The spindle wouldn't go past the neck of the new longfield axle . I tried the other one, same way.

I didn't know what to do next, sure didn't want to wack it with the BFH, so I called Mr. Longfield and he explained, that when you press in the new bushings, sometimes it makes them " swell ". He said it would be best, if I had a machine shop, hone out the bushings, so there's a little play between the two pieces. This just came up in another thread, the other day.

At least I got the preload set, on the new bearings, after two tries. preload is @ 11 pounds, on both sides. Should be good there, yes? Put on the life time seal and rock rings.

Enough for today! Hope they're cold enough

Did you grind the inside relief on the knuckle for the "longfields"? I forgot to do this on my mini truck and it bound up every time i installed the spindle

Nocents,

I did grind that down smooth, but as I've on the 60 forum, you don't have to do any grinding on the 60 knuckles. 40's you do. I just wanted to make sure, so there would be no issues.

I took the spindles, to a speed shop, today and they're reaming out the brass bushing, so there's .010 clearance, between the bushing and axle. As per, Mr. Longfield.

Thanks for checking, there's alot of little details, like that and I tend to forget things!

Had some free time today, so I rebuilt the locking hubs. It's been alot of years, since I had one these apart. Just a reminder, don't lose the little BB. The spring WILL shoot it out at you. Look for it, in the pictures. That's the longfield hub gear, sitting to the right.

Ron, doing a Fantastic job. I have a feeling this is going to be 1 of the top 10 best PIGS on this forum. Your attention to detail is amazing. Must be all the BUDS

Thanks Bob.

Thanks Guys,

It's nice, just to take some time on each piece and learn about it. That's the great thing about MUD, It's all right there and the Bud sure helps lub the brain!!

Well, I started putting the axles back together and thought it best, to replace some small parts. Georg, at Valley Hybrids, hooked me up. Everything was going good, then it happened to me, stripped caliper mount!, got to quit pumping up. Ordered a Helicoil kit, from McMaster-Carr and two days later, had it at the house.

Went pretty easy, but I'll keep my eye open for a new knuckle, down the road. I used Lock Tite, on the insert, hope it stays put.

Here's a picture of the finished rear drum brakes, if something is wrong, let me know. I was going by memory, no jokes please :)
