Little better shot of the passenger side. I'll post an update one when I rebuild the front support.

Mmmm wide angle. I really like your sliders, good job.

no, these are'nt jeep frames. :D

i would suggest using a plate between the tubes and frame.

Yes, and I'd also suggest bracing up to the frame on the outriggers.

Looks good to me and definately thrifty................:D

Well done.

IIRC "they" have non painted ones that can be purchased in various lengths and have the bump out on the end. I admit this has probably been thought of by others and you finnaly just did it. Expect there to be many others following including myself. Cheers to you!

I was trying to get an idea of the strength compared to the main 80 series players. Seems 'typical' 80 sliders are 3/16 for the box part, and 1.5" tube for the rub rail. Don't know the thickness on the tube, no-one seems to put that on their sites. 1.75" x .120 dom is probably strong enough for all but the heaviest of banging. Big plus is you can replace the whole set 4-6 times and still be money ahead.

My favorites are still mine though ;)

Like I've said before, I will be gussetting the frame similar to what Walking Eagle posted. At that point I think they will be strong enough for anything I plan to do with the truck. The truck has been wheeled quite a bit over the past 5 years with no sliders at all and still has straight rockers (although there are a few scratches low in the doors that were way too close to being large dents). Making good choices and having good spotters on the trails helps a lot.

Thanks for all the comments, good or bad. There are several EXCELLENT options out there for 80 sliders. I just could not justify the cost, and I had these sitting in the garage and figured I should put them to use. And maybe present another less expensive option for some of you to consider.

As for material on these, I took these specs from Marlin's site and I'm fairly certain that TrailGear is using the same material. Marlin is using 1.75"x .120 HREW tubing.

That's exactly how I made mine for my '85 pickup. 1.75" .120 wall. You can lift the truck off the ground with them and they don't flex at all. I haven't ever been able to believe that people are willing to spend almost a thousand dollars for something when there are such good alternatives out there.

I just got my HDJ81 last week and once I get my ass in gear I'll bang off another set of these. Of course, I've got a diesel and don't have those silly cats to worry about. :D

It's been said already but I will say it again... great job! I can't justify the big $$ for the vehicle specific rocker protection. I saw these on 4wheelparts for $150ish and thought that would be a great idea too since my lx won't see any real rockcrawling for many years. Thanks for the post and the pics. I will be following soon.

sorry, missed where you said that, no need to tell you to do what you're already going to do eh?

Yep, both sites list 1.75" x .120 HREW.

I am planning to do the same thing with mine, in fact I have the sliders sitting in the shop, just haven't had time to work on the 80 much.

I will be adding a twist to it though, that will hopefully set mine apart from anything out there to date. We'll see.

Box Rocket, good job!

Love the sliders, I think they look great. I did something similar on my Tundra, I bought the sliders from All-Pro for a tacoma and welded them directly on with a gusset and they worked great, length and all. I never tested them due to being a poser rig but they looked great and were strong as anything. On a different note, what springs are you running and what size tires are those? That set up looks great!

Nice job!

One can buy these sliders and a brand new mini MIG machine plus helmet/welding gloves and pretty much equal the cost of the "bolt on" offerings.

I know what I'll be doing before MOAB.

Thanks. The suspension consists of:

OME J springs all around
1.5" spacers
OME L shocks
swaybar spacers
Outback Control arms
adjustable panhards

Tires are 315/75/R16 BFG ATs

Spacers up front only?
What advantage did the panhards provide?

Well I rebuilt the under-cat support on my sliders yesterday. Turned out to be cleaner and much stronger. Also added the gussets at the frame. Very little flex in the sliders at all now, so they should be solid enough to take some decent abuse. I'm pleased with how they came out considering that I got the sliders for free on a Pirate giveaway. I'm into these about $20 for a little material and welding supplies. Not bad.

Here's a couple pics of what I did under the cat. Simple 3/8 plate and a couple peices of tubing. Notched out the heatshield by the rocker a little to tuck it in tight.
