Slee SPC uppers suck a big one

  • Ball-joint cup is clocked to run level on vehicles with 2-3" additional ride height.
This is copied off the nitro specs from justdifferentials. I've been putting off UCAs as I keep reading issues with SPC ballpoints. No issues with the nitro tundra size balljoints?

Exactly my point. The nitro's use OEM joints (quality) AND they are angled to be riding level at lifted height. Exactly why my stance is that in comparison they suck... Also they are supposed to be an upgrade because they are supposed to prevent premature failure by having more range of rotation vs stock... I do wheel hard, and I don't just throw up opinions without my due diligence. It may sound harsh but these things suck!! I wouldn't even want to sell them on to someone... Unless after they read my thread they still want them... Some people live that kind of punishment!!

I understand they are clocked to run level. But I'm more interested to know if they are aligned aft-ward, to allow for OE caster specs w/o distorting the inner bushings too much.

I doubt Moog is OEM Land Cruiser quality. If anybody knows differently, I'm all ears.

I'm with you on the moog quality. Ran moog on my last 3/4T dodge and all of it was crap. My thinking is once the moog BJs go out I'll swap them for OEM.

AFAIK, the OEM ball joint is not available a la carte.

I'm sure Moog "problem solvers" are used to keep pricing competitive, but can be swapped with OEM when the time comes. Did not mean to imply Moog are OEM quality. Will see how long they last.

Edit: Doesn't look like OEM are available without buying the whole Tundra Upper as Hoser posted. Will look for a 555/Sankei alternative.

Why can't toyota make this easy for us? :(

I know its a marketing ploy.

At least they are easily attainable. It's like guns, propriety parts, even if they are better, are not worth it in something you rely on when you can only get them at select places.

Might want to cancel that order ;) If not, run them for a while and report your findings. Information is always useful.

Bummer. The alternative was the total chaos uca's and i heard early reviews that the spc uppers were the way to go and the Tc uca's made too much noise

I just went with Moog from Rock Auto, no issues.

As mentioned above, I think nitros are the way to go.

Yep, gone through 2 sets in 12k miles! I do wheel but I'm pretty easy on it. The second set went out in about 4K miles, when I called the shop that sold them to me they said I must have them installed backward or am over extending them with my ome suspension. Needless to say, that particular vendor and spc has lost my business.

I don't understand if OEM lasted 100k why not stay OEM.

I run 34s on both of my 100s and never had alignment issues.

All the bs is not worth the inch or 2 more droop.

I've had my SPC UCA's on my truck over a year and approx 11k miles. My alignment is fine, ride is great, tire wear is normal...no issues. I've had it wheeling 4 times but mostly use it on the street.

The one thing I like about the SPC's... I was able to dial in +4 degrees of caster. It drives very nicely at highway speeds.
