Christo: I found this thread by accident - I really, REALLY like this design . Can you please tell me if the angle of the upper part of the ladder would allow it to be mounted on a Series 80 Slee rear bumper (would the top clear the glass and spoiler?) Can you post the length of the rail, from spindle center line to the inner end safety latch pin center line?

If I cut 8 inches off my tire mount, including the Hi-Lift bracket, and re-attached the latch and pin, I might have enough room to mount the 100 ladder rack on the left side of the 80 bumper. I figure there would be about 27 inches max.....This is the model I have:

Tell me if this would work, please! If yes, how much would you charge for the ladder rack, spindle and latch parts?

If the 100 rack won't fit, I will be first in line to buy one that could be retrofitted to the older single swing bar 80 bumper.

BTW I would love a Hi-Lift mount and a double Jerry can mount on the ladder.....

Sorry to revive an old thread but I am thinking of importing one of the rear bumpers for my 100 to the UK but still need to be able to tow a trailer and was wondering what people are doing and if there are any pics.

Or if i fit the bumper do i have to accept that towing a trailer is not possiable?

Thanks

hi Warren,

There is a 2" receiver which can tow up 5k+ lbs trailer. The bumper is really solid. If you want I can take some close up pics with a hitch on it. This is me pulling a ski through rough terrain and washboards for hours..

Many thanks, some close up pics would be great. My concern is if Slee dont rate the bumper for towing what happens with insurance if things go wrong or you are in an accident with your trailer.

Where can one get this hitch from and one last silly question but if the bumper is not rated for towing what is the 2" reciever for?

If you're concerned about insurance validity while towing in Europe then I don't think it will work for you. Vehicles registered from 1998 onwards can only legaly use type approved mechanical coupling devices  that means tow bars that have been submitted for and passed standards testing ($$$) and have a plate attached with approval number and ratings. Even drop plates and spacers are not allowed unless the bar gained approval with those fitted. Just don't tow with it till you get clear of Europe ;)

Just wanted to quickly report that the rear bumper did amazing at CM11! There are no rattles and the thing is like a tank. I hit very hard several times and got no deflection or denting. This thing is bomb proof!

I'm still very interested in mounting Rotos to the ladder. this is my main reason for not purchasing it yet. Christo, is there anything in the works still? I saw some clinging to the back of your 80 and was hoping to see an option for the hundy soon.

This is immediately after install. It's missing some paint now....that's a good thing.

My own personal touch. At least a couple cases were opened using this one during the event including some by random passers by.

John, I am working on a swing mount for the rotopax that bolt to the ladder. However if you just want cans on it, you can just buy their mounting plate and mount it straight to the ladder.

:hhmm::hhmm::hhmm: Very interested in the swing out as I'm planning on getting a Front Runner and it would be sweet to still have the ladder functionality. A swing-out on a swing-out....interesting.

On the ladder, is the spacing for the mount locations correct for a 4 gallon rotopax using 2 mounting points?

Edit: I just noticed that the universal mount has tons of bolt hole options. Assuming some combo of those works.

I'd wait for the swingout on the ladder-swingout setup. It keeps the functionality of the ladder.

I agree...I saw the one on Christo's LC and liked it.

These things look like they take more space for less volume than the ole Jerry can. I've not seen one before so whats the attraction? They look cool.
The attaraction is the ease of mounting/dismounting, the ability to interlock tanks for different fuel/storage/water/first aid, the bomb proof construction and the very low profile. A lot of people mount these flat on top of their roof racks and they don't stick up at all which = much less wind resistance/noise/visibility.

Anyone have pictures of the setup Slee was running at CM this year? I don't see any on his web site yet either? Was this on a 80 or 100?

This is a concept we are working on. The Rotopax lends itself to different mounting and also for a narrower profile so that it does not hit the truck when opening. Also allows for stacked cans with nearly the same capacity of 3 jerry cans, but does not cover the lights.

Now we are talking! The swingout with still having access to the ladder is what sold me.

Thanks for posting up Christo. Will this setup be capable of holding/withstanding three 4 gallon rotopax? My thoughts are to use two 4 gallon gas, and a split 2 gallon for water and storage.

How much higher is the reciever on the Slee bumper than the factory hitch? I drug the back end of my hundy all over Utah a few weeks ago and am ready to bob the rear end. The constant dragging off of ledges made the wife want the rubicon back.

Depends on what else you do. I did my lift at the same time and got 6+ inches.

I'll tell you that I almost never dragged during CM on Porcupine, and Poison spider in places that I used to get really hung up on.
