Thanks for posting up Christo. Will this setup be capable of holding/withstanding three 4 gallon rotopax? My thoughts are to use two 4 gallon gas, and a split 2 gallon for water and storage.

The design was mostly done to see if the swingout portion was going to work. I might have to change some aspects based on the weight of three sets of cans. I would think that will be the limit.

How much higher is the reciever on the Slee bumper than the factory hitch? I drug the back end of my hundy all over Utah a few weeks ago and am ready to bob the rear end. The constant dragging off of ledges made the wife want the rubicon back.

You will still drag... - it's a Cruiser, not a j**p...

Exactly. After CM a little work with sand paper and paint and the those areas are cleaned up. I also don't have to worry about it flexing into the body and it's pretty much rock solid no matter what type of road/trail you are on.

Now I just need to fix my exhaust rattling against my belly pan.

Picking your lines will also help with some of the scraping.... remember this is a big rig. I was running a BOIR rear bumper last week which has the same clearance if not a tad more than the Slee and I was still scraping all over Moab. So, the bumper you will help, but may not cure the problem....

We even played a game last saturday, lets see how many times 02 beast can go over an obstacle without hitting the back bumper. We got a lot better about not hitting it once we started doing that, and picking proper lines. BUT, when it did hit, he hit it hard...and it did it's job, stay there and take a beating. It's why I have the same bumper, it just takes it and asks for more.

^ It is definitely solid!! Would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Mxndrnks is right, his BIOR bumper also smacked a bunch the day before.

The 100 cant get away from wiping it's butt on the trail as it goes...kind of like a dog scratching its hole by rubbing it on your expensive carpet.

I bought my RotoPax because they can fit in areas that jerry cans can't. Behind my ladder between the body of the truck and the ladder, Under my roof rack leaving the top available for other stuff or a RTT. Their mount system is pretty amazing as well as the ability to stack and expand them for the specific trips needs. The colors are nice, and it's nice to be able to carry halves that connect to one another when you have other needs. It's also really nice to be able to use the small ones on my M/C saddlebags and then on my truck to if I need to.

Plus some people just like to have the "coolest" thing.

If you ask around, you won't have to pay $100 either...

Rotopax won't rust. Ever. And yes they are the coolest thing, and if you are nice you can indeed get them cheaper.

Christo: I found this thread by accident - I really, REALLY like this design . Can you please tell me if the angle of the upper part of the ladder would allow it to be mounted on a Series 80 Slee rear bumper (would the top clear the glass and spoiler?) Can you post the length of the rail, from spindle center line to the inner end safety latch pin center line?

If I cut 8 inches off my tire mount, including the Hi-Lift bracket, and re-attached the latch and pin, I might have enough room to mount the 100 ladder rack on the left side of the 80 bumper. I figure there would be about 27 inches max.....This is the model I have:

Tell me if this would work, please! If yes, how much would you charge for the ladder rack, spindle and latch parts?

If the 100 rack won't fit, I will be first in line to buy one that could be retrofitted to the older single swing bar 80 bumper.

BTW I would love a Hi-Lift mount and a double Jerry can mount on the ladder.....

Slee - I would also be interested in a kit to modify the bumper pictured above (orig. slee 80 swingout) and add the spindle, ladder swing out and associated hardware.

Would you be willing to put a DIY kit together for owners of your previous bumper versions??????????

Thanks

The arm on the old style bumper is too long. So the ladder will not fit. Also, it requires pretty extensive surgery to the bumper to retrofit a spindle back into it.

Thanks for the responce Slee.

Sorry for the hijack guys, resume 100 series stuff.

Off topic - I now know what you mean about rust. My brand new metal jerry cans, after just one trip, have little surface rust spots here and there.

Damn rust!!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I remembered LT315/75R16with front wheel spacers.

They might be 325 R18s though.

I know this is an old thread but are there any 100 series rear bumpers like this with the side "wings" ? I really like the look of this on an 80 how do you think it would look on the 100 and how functional would it be? I'm guessing that Slees rear could be modified to have these but wasn't sure since it doesn't have the lip that sicks out from the body.

Those we 325/65/18's. They were bought a long time ago when 18" tires were not the norm. I like the look, but they are way big for the truck. Rubbing in the front. They now reside on this. Much better fit.
