Slee Dual Carrier Bumper

seems like the expectation would be that a standard 5/8" pin would fit since that is what the majority of folks use.

I don't even really know why the different sizes anyways. Why not just stick with the 5/8 on every application?

Maybe it's meant for the smaller hitch receivers? :hhmm:

Well after further investigation, I can get my 5/8" bolt through the holes, but not the 5/8" locking pin. I think the hole size on the bumper is every so slightly smaller than 5/8" - as Christo has suggested.

However this isn't my major problem using the hitch haul. I just realized I can't swing the bumper arms out, even with nothing on the hitch haul. The rubber stoppers on the arms protrude down about an inch or two preventing the arms from clearing the top of the hitch haul. I had accepted the fact the arms couldn't swing out with a cooler loaded, but I have to solve this unloaded clearance problem. :bang:

How important are those stoppers - can I cut them off? I assume they are there just to prevent the arms from swinging too far in and hitting the tailgate.

I know, maybe Christo can design a big door stopper thing that goes in the hinge, like on interior doors. :D

No, you can not cut them off. They are integral to the design to stop the carrier from moving and vibrating. Lower the basket, or get a drop extension.

See, that's why I was never an engineering major!

What about the sub switch?

I can say that it is because it is not rated for towing :D but that would be BS.

There was a mistake in drilling those because someone used a 5/8" drill bit and not the 43/64's.

Easiest fix will be to get a pin that fits, 2nd would be to just open it up a little with a drill bit or a carbide bit. Sorry about that. It was an isolated issue on the last batch we made.

I would say to increase the size of the hole would be better. Of course, I don't have one of these bumpers so take that for what it deserves. However, I know that I have 4 or 5 pins floating around, I mix and match them all the time, I carry one in just about any truck and it's an easy thing to lose, replace, borrow etc.

I would want all the pins out there, mine and others, to fit the hole.

Of course, if it's powder coated you'd want to coat/paint the edges carefully after redrilling.

With a little lubrication I was able to get my 5/8" locking pin through the hole, so do need to drill.

On another note, how do you lock a Hi Lift onto the bumper jack holder bolt?

Bolt/stud goes between jack and handle, not through any of the holes in the jack.

Oh, that would have been my assumption... in one of the holes in the jack. But, how would you secure (lock) it from theft?

Cable lock through one of the holes seems to be the most common way.

Neither would I. When you stay awake for 3-4 consecutive days it is amazing what one can accomplish.
