Skinny 35's?

A google search shows that there are some 285/85R16 tyres out there... Spelling intentional as none of the sites are in english. Hmm...

No experience with these, but Interco's Super Swamper SSR 285/75R16 (SSR-38R) is 33.9" when new . . . basically a true 34 x 9.5 with 16x8 as the recommended wheel, and it's a radial.

LTB's are unreal off road, but not much on the road. They ride like a bias-ply.

The big news above is the SSR in 35x10.50R15LT !!!!

Somebody buyem! I wanna know how they ride!

These are the 35x10.5R16 SSR's on 16x7 Unique rims. Laden about 34" tall.

Got any other pics of those tires?

This better?

One is hard to balance. The other 4 are no problem. Thinking of getting http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/balancers/ to maximize life, and also look after things when the lead weights get scrapped off.

To be honest, since I bought them a few years ago they mostly sat in the shop, and were put on once in a while for wheeling. I am going to leave them on now. They probably have about 10,000kms on them at this point. One showed really strange wear after driving from Vancouver to Whitehorse (right rear position, truck weighted around 7000lbs). I think it was my fault and I was under inflated. Popped them all up to 55lbs for highway use, they are quieter, and after the 7500kms road trip the three that were on the whole way seem none the less for wear.

I've heard of sidewall issues, but...knock on wood...I've been okay. Dunno if it is a 15" 6ply vs 16" 8ply issue, or simply expectations for these radials to perform like bias ply Swampers, or something like the Military tires.

They are on 4" BS Unique 21-7760 wheels, with 1.5" bolt on spacers.

Yeah, but the one's I posted up aren't LTBs, they're SSRs. LTBs ride like bias plies because they are, but the SSRs are radials. I too would be interested in knowing how the SSRs behave on-road.

I'm seriously considering going to 35x10.50 SSR's. I have someone that is supposed to send me pics of them side by side with 35x12.50 MTR's. When I get these I'll post them.

Another option is always the old Q78-15 TSL Swamper-it's 35.5" tall though, but with 27/32 of tread!

It's got about 0.6" more tread width than the SSR, but the section width is less than the SSR by about 0.9". Downside-it's also a bias ply tire.

In a 36" tire, there is the old school radial Buckshot Mudder in a 305/85/16 with tread width 9.3" and section width of 12" and 36.0" tall. This is also a 10 ply tire.

Thanks! I'v ealso heard of the sidewall issues, but wondered if that was just coming from people that were used to a bias ply tire.

sorry to drap this up again, but instead of posting new I wanted to know if anyone has run the Co-op Grip spur here (80's?) and how they might do for rock. Spec 900x16

thru the years i have seen these other tires tall and skinnys:

Co-Op Grip Spur 900x16
Load Range D Tube Type
Tread 6 Plies Nylon Sidewall 4 Plies Nylon Cord

STA Super Lug M/S
Load range D 8 ply rating
4 ply nylon side wall 4 ply nylon tread
Tubeless

Michelin XZL 9.00 R16 Radial
J134 Tubeless
Tread - 4 steel plies
Sidewall - 1 steel ply

Power King Super Traction 9.00-16LT Tubeless Black Load Range D Tread 6 Plies (Nylon Cord), Sidewall 4 Plies (Nylon Cord, Load Range D Tubeless

9.00 X 16LT
Goodyear Custom Xtra Grip Hi-Miler tires

Military NDT 900x16
Here is a tire option you might want to consider
34/10.5-16 Super Swamper LTB from JC Whitney part # ZX321270F $142.99 ea. with free shipping for now

These are the Interco Swamper 34x10.5/15 LTB biasply tires being refered to.. I've had these four for about a year unmounted, and it seems like the price was $123. ea. through some obscure place that shipped free. I found the lowest price and the free shipping by doing a general net search.
I run the 34x10.5/16 LTBs off road. They aren't a true 34" mounted on 8" steels. :frown: They barely hit 33" measuring when there off the car. And are definitly not for the DD.

sorry didn't mean to bring up an old thread. I thought it was '07 not '06.
Damn Rookies...

Actually, I'm glad you did. Anybody out there find anything different then the above mentioned? Any new tires out there that are tall and skinny? I am thinking about going 34" or 35" by 10.5" on stockers hopefully. I like the LTB's but they are a bit too aggressive and of course bias-ply. Any one else have any good or bad reviews about any of these tires?

yup i live right down the road from the interco warehouse/dist pt in rayne ,la and those two tires are avail 34x9.5 and 34x10.5 but waht you have to be aware of is the 34x9.5 i believe is the radial version and the 34x10.5 is the ltb non radial....there are a couple of guys who run these in their spare tire on their 40's becouse of weight and clearance issues work great i might add. i have seen the q78-15 on stock rims and hubcaps interesting look just like the 40 should(look up on memberlist name tabascoloco) ck my boys truck out on q78-15,
and a 34x9.5 for a spare.

Okay, I'm not bashing anyone here. I don't understand skinny tires, except for the front of a street rod, or nitro dragster. Why skinny tires on an offroad vehicle? No one has answered this question for me yet, they all just act as if I should know better. Please enlighten me. But do expect questions back.

Thanks for the link...There always seems to be new info/experience that I haven't heard yet, which is cool. I guess I also am begining to realize there really aren't that many choices for on/off-road tires in the 33"-35" x 10.5" range. I was hoping to run the tallest/widest possible tire on my stock rims on my DD 55. Some shops won't even mount 10.5" wide tires on these rims, they are 5.5" wide. I'm not interested in widening the stock rims either. By the way, I have 12.5" wide tires on my trail pig. 10.5" seems to be the widest I've seen typically run with these stockers. I really like the idea/looks of the LTB but it is bias-ply and small for a 34" tire. I was hoping for something similar, maybe taller with a little more road appeal. Still contemplating...
