Thank you all! Looks like these are 8mm then and are still available. This is excellent. Maybe I'll buy 2 sets and have a spare...

back on the road

Well,

Thanks to all the help here - especially with the part numbers - the 40 is back on the road.

I talked to my friend - a domestic only transmission shop - about checking the shaft for trueness. He did not have the equipment to do this and the only one he knew about was an hour away. So this is what we did:

We installed it, then lifted the rear wheels off the ground and turned them manually. Looked good. Then we started the 40 and put it in gear. It was quite easy to see some slight wobble as it was moving a bit faster than manually turning the tires. Then I took it around the block - no vibrations or anything was felt. Seemed back to normal.

I am considering sourcing another driveshaft anyway to have around as a spare because there was some visible wobble in the shaft. What do you all think?

Meanwhile- 8 years in the future- search turns up this thread. I realize my 57- 25 has 10mm drive shaft hole (which would require 9mm bolts). (After I assumed they were 11mm and ordered them from SOR).

I used my caliper and checked the holes and they at 10mm dead on. This the reason the 11mm won't fit through the hole.

I know @cruiserdan looked these up for the 62 before and found those to be 8mm.

Anyone know the equivalent Toyota part numbers on the 9 mm drive shaft bolts? I see where Lowrange off road and marlin crawler have them listed on their sites.

I know the 25s -- especially early ones had some hard to document specs. One of the things I needed to do was get these drive shaft bolts correct as generic standard ones were used in the restoration that were 8mm.

According to the 1963 FJ25 parts catalog:

91111-51028 Bolt (hex-hd 10-1.25p x 28)
94110-41000 Nut (hex 10-1.25p)
94512-01000 Washer, spring (10)

Those are 10mm part numbers.

Thanks for the 8mm part numbers! Going to order some. I was looking for new driveshaft bolts for my 1965 FJ40. All the part numbers I found were for 1969 and up so it was hard to figure out what bolts I needed.
