Every time I'm about to wrap up HIH6, @paflytyer and I keep coming up with more cool stuff for you guys. As we mentioned at the event @NLXTACY (wits' end) sent some raffle items that got mixed up in shipping and we did not have on hand during the raffle. Here is what Joey generously provided. A couple of medium hoodies, a real Scepter water can, (2) full fuse kits for 100 Series, (2) wits' end glass punches, a couple of cool teq patches, four of the teq logo replacements for the ARB logo on ARB bumpers, and a Scepter water can replacement lid. Cool stuff for sure. Stan and I are watching this thread and will be doing a random raffle for this stuff for those of you sharing stories and pics!! Thanks guys!!! Targeting a week or so out to start shipping this stuff to the winners!

Thanks to Chris @bluecruiser and Stan @paflytyer for organizing a great event and the other volunteers and trail leads that helped make it all happen (Sam and Steve for the two runs we were on). Was also great catching up with friends we've met during previous trips to Colorado and making new friends this year.

Didn't take many pics, but have a few from Imogene and visit to Animas Forks.

Man, you had the cleanest truck there. At least on Thursday. :)

Finally getting around to posting up some pics from the trip. What a great time! This was the first time my wife and kids have ever been "wheeling" with me, and it was certainly a success. Thanks so much to Chris and Stan for for organizing a great event, thanks to Steve for being an excellent trail leader on Imogene & Ophir, and thanks to all the great sponsors for the awesome raffle prizes - really looking forward to lounging in my new hammock!

On to the pics ...

Feel free to check out all my pics on Photobucket - 100s In The Hills by Court Merz

I have an idea that could probably be a new thread, but I'm going to leave it here. I'm terrible with remembering names - especially in situations where I'm meeting a ton of new people all at once (sorry if I asked you for your name 3 times at HIH!).

It would be great if everyone could post their name and a picture of themselves at the event (for those who are ok with doing it). I'll start it off:

Andrew (and Jet)

Scott & Malcolm & Mac

Outside of the great trail rides and comraderie at camp, Silverton and surrounding towns have lots of fun things to do with the family. We enjoyed Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride. The mine up the road from Silverton is worth the trip.

Also, there were lots of friendly 4-legged friends on the trip as well

Awesome thread and great write-up everyone. However, I did note a few non-100's in some of the pics.....
Looks like I'll have to rain in on the parade next year with the 80.

Btw, awesome shots of everyone and their families. As much as I like wheeling it wouldn't be the same if I couldn't share it with my little dude and the wife.

The white 80 belongs to @bluecruiser who owned a 100 for 7 years. And he's a co-founder of the event, so he obviously gets a pass. The Inferno Tacoma belongs to Ben C of Dissent Offroad, he gave away TWO bumpers this year at the raffle, that gets him a pass. The 200s belong to Nitro, Slee and BIOR, so they get a free pass as well for their donations to the raffle. The maroon Taco belongs to Josh (@xlcaferacer) and he is a longtime tour guide on the trails in the area and knows every rock, flower, trail, mountain and local spot, so he also gets a free pass for what he can provide to the attendees.

With that being said, we always keep a few spots available for non-100 owners so they can experience what this event is all about. Unfortunately, we fill all spots with 100 Series owners first.

We really do not want to turn away other Land Cruiser owners and we have talked more than once about opening this event even wider. Realistically, we just haven't had the space. Now that we have secured such a large facility and area, that may change in the future. We hope that folks understand where we're coming from.

I put my favorite pic up on the live thread, but here it is again. By the way, did anyone happen to get any good shots climbing the waterfall at Black Bear day 1? I had the silver LX, but didn't get any pics of this area.

Most fun I've had in years, thanks for setting this up!

Sure do see some non-100s. Supporting vendors and myself, long time 100 guy , HIH co-founder/director. We may have a mechanism next year to get a couple non-100s in the mix, however with 45 plus 100 Series guys on a wait list, it likely won't be many. We've really lucked out to have so many 100 guys that have supported us and fill up the registration each summer. Thx!

As you guys probably know by now, @paflytyer and I talk/text all the time. We have made an executive decision to send one of the Wits' End hoodies to @dubitup 's daughter who lost her HIH hoodie at camp. Thx again @NLXTACY for the gear and swag.

Woohoo!! One less that gets used as a truck chamois!

Well here's my go at a Trip Report. I'm not much for these things, because it's hard to translate the experience into words. I always enjoy reading other's reports, so i need to get better at them. Here goes...

The trip to HIH6 begins just north of Boston Massachusetts. Through MUD and the HiH6 registration thread, I found a couple of other east coasters headed out to the event. Communicating over email it was determined that the group thread started by @Nezzar would be convoying from St. Louis Wednesday morning. @maxse01 chimed in that we would be leaving from eastern PA on Tuesday. Things started to line up for me to meet them so in messaging with @maxse01 we determined a meet point for near Pittsburgh, PA for Tuesday morning.

First there was two...

After fueling up (in what would be a constant theme for days...) we departed for St. Louis. This would be long haul day so that we could get to our overnight location to meet the others in Wentzville, MO (just west of STL) Wednesday morning. Chuck and I passed the time talking on the CB and getting to know each other. Having many things in common made the nearly 700 mile segment go by quickly!

Wednesday Morning, we rallied for a 0700 departure. I knew I was in the right spot when i spotted @Nezzar, @Scotch and @maxse01 fueling up and getting in line. STL made for a great cross-roads meeting spot, as we originated from all points east. @Scotch joined in from Nashville and @Nezzar locally from St. Louis.

We were just waiting for @derekb41 to show up and we could roll... once he arrived, we all ogled his rig towing the Moby1 teardrop and planning our strategy. Let's Roll!!

By the end of the day we would collectively make the run to Colorado. It was nice having the group together, as any issues that would arise could be resolved quickly. Fortunately we didn't run into any major issues. @derekb41 had a challenge running the same speed as the group, since we weren't towing and running 75. He was a good sport pulling down 8mpg, but the stops every 150-175 miles probably started wearing thin on him!

By the end of the day, we would all split up a bit since individual plans had us in different locations in Colorado. @maxse01 went to his sister's to visit and pickup the BIL. @Scotch headed to DIA to pickup his father and son. @derekb41 had a loose plan to camp near Golden and visit Slee. With those plans in mind, we broke the convoy around 3/4 of the way to Denver. @Nezzar and I split off in Limon to head to Colorado Springs to overnight. I had too address a few work issues before going off-grid (at least in my mind) so the Doubletree in ColoSprings made for a good final base. After putting the urgent emails to rest, setting my Out-of-Office alert, I made my way down to the hot tub to soak my aching legs. At this point, 3 full days of nearly 1800 miles had my legs and back complaining. a good long soak took the soreness out...

I awoke refreshed on Thursday morning and excited to see the Silverton Hills and the other 100s! Linking back up with @Nezzar, we made our way out US50 through the beautiful scenery of Gunnison and Montrose. After stopping for last groceries and gas, we made out way to Ouray.

Headed up the Million Dollar Highway and waiting for some gas to stop gurgling...

Worth the mileage... this is the arrival mileage to Silverton from Boston, MA

Silverton was Welcoming! Loved the banner on the way into town! That was a really nice treat. We also timed it perfectly with the Southern Contingent and we rolled right into the traffic V at the gas station at literally the exact moment. we couldn't have timed it that well had we tried! Good to see old friends rolling all in at the same time!

Ophir / Imogene - Day 1 Trails
I was lucky to get Tim (@nakman) for my first trail day. Since I had a 2m HAM and had done these trails before, I ran tail gunner. We had a delightful ride over to Telluride via Ophir, lunch at the park in town and then back on Imogene. Since we were the first run to go over Imogene, Tim and I secured the coveted HIH6 sticker on the mailbox!

I've run out of image attachments, so TBC! I guess Part 2 is coming later!

Holding for Part 2!

The coveted first plant of the sticker!
