Sixth Annual 100s in the Hills Trip Report

Just got home. Clocked up 4200 miles on our trip. From what I can tell I have a small grease leak in the passenger boot (that will be rebanded this weekend), and a few sway bar bushings that needed to be changed anyway. All is good on a 224,000 mile truck, and pics will follow later in the weekend. Thanks again to everyone that makes this event truly an incredible experience.

Not sure if this asked before, anyone experienced any mechanical issues?
I had a dead (stone dead, not just drained) battery on Friday morning, of all times. My fault because the battery was nearly 4 years old. I thought about getting a new one before the trip but got lazy. Drove the trails all day and 90 minutes up to Montrose for the new battery, all on the alternator.

Also had the driver's door window pop out of the track so it wouldn't completely seal when it got to the top. Probably due to driving the trails with the window down and the door getting slammed shut a million times. Took it all apart when I got home and fixed it.

I was running 33" Michelin AT 2s with everything else bone stock. Only hit the lower portion of the receiver hitch a few times and scuffed the spare. Proof that a stock truck can do all the main passes.

My truck amazed me once again with its capabilities.

My '06 had the vapor issue twice, both times while shut off at the top of a pass (Cinnamon & Imogine). I was able to take the gas cap off and open the hood for ~15min both times and it started after it stopped gurgling. I never filled more than 3/4 tank, left it running the last day up high and didn't have an issue ..

Great news. Cleaned out truck and spotted 2 XL event shirts. $25 each, shipped. PM me if you want to claim one. Best shirt yet, in my opinion. Thanks again for the support on the hoodies and shirts. Seems like we just about nailed the quantity needed. As @paflytyer mentioned, we got so much great feedback this year that we are already working on 2017. We are pumped!! Keep the stories coming!

$ going your way either later tonight or early tomorrow! We are at a Flogging Molly concert and the whole day today was just crazy! I don't remember paypal login to do it on my phone.

May I propose adding in a little something for Stan and Chris for making this event such a premier and awesome experience for everyone? Could HIH become an official organization if it isn't already? Just spit balling. I feel like Stan and Chris need more than the satisfaction of pulling off the greatest events successfully.

I have something on the way as a thank you for both Chris and Stan. Looking at it on my computer screen, it looks AMAZING! If anyone else from the trip wants to be included on it just send me a PM.

My trip report is coming, I promise. I have been unusually busy at work this set of night shifts and haven't had much time to work on sifting through pictures or videos yet.

Thanks a ton to Stan and Chris @bluecruiser @paflytyer for all their hard work to put together a great event (again). Brought my family out, and a buddy and his family tagged along (he was the creator of the awesome jambalaya). Even though i feel like we lost some of the interaction by not staying at camp (wife requirement) we had a great time as always. Looking forward to next year.

@paflytyer I know you are swamped going though all your stuff and getting settled back into the real world. Do you dump and host your pics anywhere? I would love to look though them! I think there may be a couple good ones I would love to see, especially from our small sunday outing.....getting sort of hung up in that one spot. hahaha

That looks like such a fun time. How realistic is it for someone to attend who has never been offroading and has a stock vehicle?

My truck is bone stock. Took off the side boards and mounted 33" Michelin AT 2's. Had no issues climbing across the rocks up 5 of the major passes. Only hit a few times on the receiver hitch which saved the rear bumper cover.

I would say AT tires are a must. Other than that, the stock vehicle is ready to go!
