Was the 80's issue a head gasket? Must not have been if you didn't do valve seals to... But what was the issue?

Thermostat was the overheating problem, had a new one sitting on my shelf for a couple years and thought it couldn't be that simple. It was. Oil consumption most likely valve seals as compression came back great, only smokes a little on start up or after a long idle. Oil and coolant good and no signs of the two mixing. Relisted it today and got two buyers, first one sending a deposit tomorrow.

Thats great G. Wish i could find a real buyer for my runner :(

Thanks Gnob. Probably should have asked for a bit more since it went so quick but I thought it was fair. Will be ordering winch, bumper and skids for the new Runner and the wife will be ordering her car. That means the Runner is all mine! :grinpimp: Better suited for some expedition wheeling if I can find the time.

Also, if anyone has leads, Brat is looking for his first ride. A gen 3 Runner with a budget of $4K. Keep your eyes open.

It seems as though the models of cruisers go through a stage of in fashion cause they're new, then they fade after the used worn out ones start hitting the used market. After the old worn out ones of that period stop hitting the market people jump on the low mileage barn finds and then after a while the nostalgia of the glory days kick in. Of course the east coast folks like our rust free relics and the new LC's cost 90k so 15k is cheap- I think that was a fair deal..

Well I found something good on Craigs...

80 finally sold today. Watched it drive away. First buyer backed out because of an injury, might be true who knows. Ended up getting 4 more buyers lined up over the weekend and one offered more than asking so he was the winner. Wife's new car is in transit now to Toyota arriving next week and I will be ordering some goodies for MY 4Runner. Driving Pop's 40 in the meantime.

Congrats/I'm sorry G!
Thanks Jippy. Bitter-sweet indeed. Made sure to take my green Antarctica flag off of it too. It not resides on the wall in the man cave along with the rear spoiler from my 80. I swapped out a spoiler Tim had given me years ago so I could keep a piece of it.
