I know what your talking about saving money that's what I'm all about at this point in my life. I'm not sure what all the battery trays where made out of but aluminum would be pretty nice. I know it's expensive but if affordable it's nice! Those steel trays aren't going to take long to be "rust covered".

(are those bolts already rusty or is it my eyes?)

Yes they are rusty. Do you think I should not use them? I don't really think its a deep rust. I'm going to coat everything in rust bullet and in rust bullet black top coat.

mine was also very simple, took a stock tray and made it bigger to fit a pair of Odyssey 1200's in the stock location, used stock holes etc etc. I made a simple hold down. I covered/painted the tray with some bedlinner stuff, didnt' have to move anything, ARB comp sits on the firewall using the AC bracket

tight. Are your batteries wired up in just parallel?

Hi All:

Great thread! I've been pondering this mod myself!

Not to hijack this thread, but questions about alternators:

"Wes1977" and "LandPimp," you guys are running stock Toyota, right?

"Mr.Manny" and "Trollhole," you fellas are using GM alternators, no?

Regards,

Alan

i've got the stock alternator. I am plaining on buying another alternater(GM) and running 2. Both of my systems will not touch. I'll have a jumper along with me in case i need it.

I've been traveling alot and decided to go with the surepower battery separator. This is where i'm at right now on my dual battery.

why don't you guys just buy an alternator that doesnt suck instead of adding all of that weight and complexity? I had a crap battery and the origional alternator and I winched about 10 times in one night before my battery just couldnt take it anymore. I cant understand what you would need another battery and 2 alternators for. just my theory.

May be off base here but if isolation is deemed necessary what would be the draw back of marine style power switch (off, bat 1, bat 2, both 1 & 2)? That is other than it being a manual set up.

The switch just to the left turns it to parellel or not. When it's parellel the green light lights up. I've got it wired up were with the key off the batteries are no longer parelleled(running on ACC). That will make sure no accidental leaving on lights or something.

I like having two batteries while cranking.

i took the stock tray and flattened the sides out and put two batteries on it side by side. only modification was to fab up a hold down system. a piece of flat stock on top and bottom with allthread to hold them down was what worked for that part. simple, cheap, quick and easy.
