Its still a work in progress but you might get some ideas, we put in the A/C vents in dash and will continue to add the switches etc. We haven't decided whether to use toggles or rockers as far as switches.

I like the 'custom' location of the speedometer cluster - very Mini Cooper:D

please don't hack up an unmolested dash :crybaby:

Greatly appreciated your concerned about people do modification to the original of its beauty dash board..., I hate to see my dash board to be chopped for the modification if things is not going right than will never get its original looks ever but, I got the newer Dash panel from 1984 HJ47 RH drive that have been recondition and ready for install on my Cruiser.
The first 2 photos show its original condition and the last 2 after recondition of the dash panel.
I will update after the installation is done, may be next year... :steer:

Sorry could not upload pictures at this time, will try again at a later time.
Thanks,

"Me like! Two questions. 1. Is there a reason the wood does not come down even with the bottom of the dash face, or is that just an illusion of the camera angle? 2. Are you offering these for sale, or a pattern? I think I would like to do this mod to the karma cruiser.

Best"

Thanks. The lower cedar panels come down to where the radius at the bottom of the dash starts. Would have looked bad (worse lol) if they extended down any further. I also did the top lip under the windshield where the oe dash pad attaches. Cut two strips to fit, one on top and the other on the bottom sandwiching the steel and attached them with the same brassish furniture bolts. Dont have any good pics of that but I can take some.

Honestly, the lower pieces are pretty easy to make if you have a skill saw, jig saw, and sander. I used the square factory holes that the oe dash clips attach to (enlarged slightly, oe clips do still fit though) to mount the wood so youre not really doing anything irreversible if youre worried about that sort of thing.

Trim up a couple pieces of cardboard to the desired shapes, punch holes in said cardboard while holding it in place to find the mounting holes, then copy in your choice of wood. I did save my templates if you really want them....

Planning to stain or varnish the wood down the line, maybe just age it somehow to match the rest of my jalopy.

Any one have the late 1983, 1984 cruiser that came with the new Dash panel insert?

Stock '83 dash except for missing radio...

I am going to install one of this dash panel into my cruiser I need
a good picture of the opening holes on the vehicle dash board where
the dash panel is going to mount on.
If any one of you, who has that picture provide for me will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I have a picture I can dig up tomorrow

This isn't my dash, just a concept I've been considering. My dash is already missing a radio, and has a couple extra holes and useless switches. So I'm not opposed to experimenting. I was thinking about using a raspberry pi and a mobile hotspot. Then I could get weather, internet radio, etc.

What does MUD think about this idea?

That isn't a bad ideas at all... I would like find a place to mount my altimeter as well and GPS, too.

Personally not a fan.

Why not a tablet on a stalk mount and repair instead of becoming someone's PO?

That's fair.

In response I'd say that I have no intentions of selling this truck ever. And I've thought about a tablet but I think it could be swiped easily if the truck is topless. So far, I've been driving around all summer with just a bikini top. If I actually put a monitor in the dash I would do my best to embed it.

MetalTech gauge panel & Autometer "Z" gauges

Just returned from St. Louis and brought some stuff home. This is the gauge panel I will install, along with a new wiring harness. I went with the American Autowire Hwy 15 harness. Everything I have read is positive on this harness and these gauges. MetalTech panel and Autometer "Z" gauges. Didn't take enough cash with me and so I came home without a carburetor to go along with new Man-A-Fre header and 2bbl intake both ceramic coated. This should be fun.

You know that's a rhd bolt in dash, yes? Not that it will be a problem, but just making sure you know.

Dash Panel Wiring

Those turn and hi-beam indicator lights were about $30. I wanted to slip some short pieces of shrink wrap on the wires to keep them together. The turn indicator bulbs slipped right out of the bodies, but the hi-beam light broke off. I was doing this as my Hobbico heat gun was left in the USA in my former life. So I was using a Bic lighter and didn't want to use it next to my new instruments. So I walked down to Radio Shack and found a light that would work for the high beam. I also found a new heat gun. Pretty slick unit with a removable heat deflector. Two thumbs up on this Radio Shack product. You can slip the unit around the connection and not have to move the gun around to complete the shrink. I could probably shorten a couple of wires, however, I don't think it would make a demonstrable difference in the picture.
