I'm about to start deleting my chrome on my LX570. I'd love to hear from DIYers what you've done. I'm planning to do this myself after calling several shops in my town - they all say they don't do chrome deletes any more, and labor pricing or paint shops is crazy now. Plus, I have the time, patience to do this - I'm calculating it's about 50% harder than YouTube makes it look. A few questions:

How did you handle window trim?
Matte or satin finish?
Planning to use 3M 2080 - any issues with that product?
Planning to hyper or plastidip my 'L' logo emblem, and just remove the others. Any suggestions there?
Front grill DIY recommendations? Wrap or paint / dip?
Any good DIY threads on MUD I missed?

Thanks!

Yeah it don't need to be hashed out here but i was quoted $1500 for a wrap.

Plastidip will be fine as well but ive decided to mask, sand and tape on vehicle.
I have yet to find a reliable way to remove trim without taking off major interior panels specially in the rear.
Even the front grill has a lot of prep to remove but due to its design, it will have to come off the truck for paint.

If you are going to dip, get hyperdip. I may yet do some piano gloss black as an experiment.

Thanks. Yeah, Hyperdip looks like the way to go.

3m vinyl is pretty easy. Don’t over think it. I gave it a go and it’s not perfect, but I’m happy with it and people compliment the truck. Search for my posts have posted details.

I've found hyperdip more durable than plastidip. I removed all trim parts (except the rear hatch emblems) for painting. I prepped and treated them just like I would for paint.

I used 3M satin from Amazon to edit my grill… Not the easiest thing to do, but with some patience it should do the job…

I just ordered new window seals for mine with the land cruiser part numbers since the rubber was getting old anyway. Wrapped the back side window chrome door strip chrome in matte but I think I’ll end up redoing it in satin. It looks good but it isn’t the same shade as the new doors.
Trying to figure out what to do on the handles. I do t think it looks too bad in chrome and I don’t want to lose the touch to unlock feature

I got rid of some of mine, going to do the rest. Sanded with 220, 3 light coats of primer, 5 light coats of paint.

Cleaned well followed by 99% isopropyl alcohol, taped. Put about 6 coats of the Plasti Dip followed by 2 coats of Plasti Dip clear.

Peeling at the bottom edge after 2 months from opening and closing. In retrospect, would not have done it. I don’t like the finish and I think it will peel even worse. I wrapped the chrome on the side trim, and have been much happier with that.

In the future, I may have this professionally painted. Will not Plasti Dip it again.
