I am woundering what shocks you guys would use on your 60 other than the OME nitro on your rigs,I have a heavy heavy. Looking for other options.

Also reading a thread that the OME shock may be a little short for full suspention droop?

My own preference is for a mono-tube like a Bilstein or a Fox. Such shock are sold by their travel length rather than their OE application since there isn't one. These are rebuildable and re-valveable if you buy high enough in the product line. At this level they only come eye/eye mounting, no top stud. For the Bils I'd start with 255/70 valving on all four corners. For Fox's I'll repeat what Mirage Racing just sold me, 40/80 front and 30/60 rear.

Each mfg uses their own rating method, so their valving numbers do not directly interchange. Some numbers are the force needed to move the shaft at a specific speed, others are the speed that the shaft can move at a specific force. The units used are all over the map. Which is why such a different set of valving numbers between brands.

I have custom valved (by me) Bilsteins on my SOA rig. I took out some of the high-speed dampening, added rebound, etc, etc. I'm sort of a freak when it comes to shock valving, I have to have it just right. The Bilsteins tend to have a longer collapsed length due to the fact that they have a dividing piston inside the tube to keep nitrogen and oil separated, so you might run into dimension issues. But it is sound advice to measure your needed collapsed and extended lengths before you buy anything. I have found most refference material to be wrong on Land Cruisers. My favorite off-the-shelf shock is the Skyjacker Sofride Nitro. I would buy those again in a heartbeat. DO NOT get the Hydro, they sucked, too harsh. And if you have a welder, do yourself a favor and modify your front mounts to accept eye mount shocks instead of the stud or post mount that it came with. Then your shock options go up dramaticaly.

I should point out that the divider piston resides in the remote reservoir if you opt for such a critter. In Bils that means nothing to the extended and compressed lengths unless you ask for the "Short Body" version of what ever stroke it is that is appropriate. The short bodied shocks are 2" shorter overall.

True, but they don't offer many of those. I have purchased the longer shafts and added reseviors from old motorcycle junk to make my own red neck resevior shocks; they are much easier to work on than the units with dividing pistons.

I think this is beginning to be more info than was requested, but it is fun!

Lehi, I think you're right on the more than requested info.
FWIW any of the Bils 7100's can be had either Remote Res or with internal divider pistons. Short bodies used to be a custom order, but the last time I looked I think I saw them with normal part numbers and prices.

I like the Billies. Any Billie with a silver body (except the 5150s) can be rebuilt. I have done about eight custom builbs for Cruisers. I look for them on Ebay, I get some crappy old motorcycle shock for the resevoir, I buy the longest shaft that will fit into the tube, I buy the shims I want and !Viola! instant cheapo resevoir Bilstein with custom valving. Parts are pretty inexpensive too, which I like. I am the consumate skin flint.
