Shock recommendation request, 08 tundra for overlanding

Hey folks. 2008 tundra 5.7, crew max 4x4 with stock suspension. I don’t plan on a lift, just need to replace the very old Toyota shocks. I do go off road some but it’s all blm roads and washboard trails, no rock crawling or the like. Aside from the diamondback bed cover weight, I will be towing a small expedition camper which will weigh approx 3000 +/- lbs wet. I do plan to add sumo springs at some point front and back.
I’m starting with the rear shocks and then will replace the front spring/shock (coilovers?) so any recommendations all around is appreciated. I don’t think I need king or fox shocks, but would like a quality step up from Toyota stock stuff.

check out Dobinsons. pretty decent stuff. @crikeymike sells it. Also, bilstien is factory for the off-road packages. Whichever way you go, remember that shocks are generally 50K maintenacne part, Struts 75K maintenance parts. Most people never do anything with them until they're trash. You never really feel the difference because it is so gradual but new shocks and struts can make a world of difference in handling and braking.

This page here shows all the shock options we offer for the 2nd Gen Tundra's. I'd probably just go with the GS59-711 rear twin tube shocks unless you feel you'd want the higher end and higher performance IMS or MRA shocks.

I liked Bilstein 4600. Running 5100 now, with ~1.5" lift, they are a bit harsher.

Both. 5100 are tuned to take bigger hits, but they are not FOX, so small bumps absorption was sacrificed. On a positive side, they are still cheap (compared to FOX and other boutique shocks), and they fade out due to heat saturation much later compared to 4600.

4600 is the best cheap shock for mild offroad, like log roads or pavement imitation on most of MA roads

I’ve read that 5100’s have more travel but since I’m running stock suspension and slightly larger tires, I don’t imagine that’s a concern for me? My main concern is ride comfort on road but also blm/washboard/mild trails.

Can't go wrong with 4600 and SL-rated tires (non-LT) then.
