I love the truck but don't like the lack of a transmission dip stick.
Is it possible to add one, I know the early models had them. Maybe swap the pan from one that has a dip stick.
Anyone done this ?
Thanks for any info / ideas on this.

The A750 was never designed for a dip stick so no place to put one. The logic behind it is that a properly operating transmission won't leak any fluid. And since it can't burn fluid like an engine can burn oil, if there's no leaks, it's full. Change the fluid and filter every 60k like you would any other tranny, keep an eye out for puddles in your driveway, and enjoy a relatively maintenance free experience.

The 2003 Land Cruiser came with an A750 - and a dipstick! It's a one or two year only special, but those parts should bolt right up. You may also be able to use some 4Runner parts. I came over here from the 4Runner world and remember people talking about this.

Maybe it can't burn through combustion, but it certainly can burn by over heating ( towing a big load on a steep grade on a hot day ) and there no way to check for this without changing the fluid in it's current configuration.
I'm old school and like to be able to check such things 😎

It can be checked without a dipstick, but it's an involved process. You need to get the rig up to temp (around 100F trans fluid temperature), have it running, set on jackstands, and level. You'll then crawl underneath and open the overflow tube on the bottom of the pan (5 mm hex plug. If no fluid comes you, you'll need to open the 24 mm fill plug on the back of the transmission and add new ATF until it spills out the overflow plug. I use a Motive-Power fill for adding fluid. Then, re-install the overflow plug when fluid stops coming out.

My approach is to do a full trans fluid exchange about every 40,000 miles, including dropping the pan to clean it and replace the filter. I set the level when re-filling and leave it alone until the next trans fluid change. A dipstick would make the whole process easier (and safer as you're not crawling around underneath a hot, running rig), but it's doable without one.

I guess I won't be doing that at a gas station while filling the tank 😎
