Hello I Have two questions please, if anyone could help:

1) I just ordered a 2021 standard LC (not the heritage edition) and in the detailed description of the vehicle it states it comes with "Side-body chrome moldings with Land Cruiser logo". Well I know the standard model comes with side body chrome moldings, but where is the logo? Is that a mistake in the description? I know the HE has a logo, but not the standard model.

2) For months I was wrestling with either getting a Sequoia or a LC, because I want a big hauler with a V8. I finally decided on a LC, mainly because reviews I've read said the Sequoia has loose steering and wouldn't be too good for tight curves. For those who own a Sequoia, how is the steering? Is it responsive or is it like steering the Titanic?
Thanks

For #1, the chrome side molding says Land Cruiser in raised lettering.

1) The "Land Cruiser" logo they're talking about is on the actual side chrome moldings (see pic).

2) My 2018 LC replaced my old 2003 Sequoia. I never thought the sequoia felt like like a boat when steering necessarily, but the entire vehicle certainly felt like much more of a road hog (a few extra inches in most directions makes a big difference). I can't speak to newer Sequoias, but the LC is a better driving experience than the 2003 Sequoia in my opinion.

Thanks for that pic, I see it now!

Have both a current gen 2009 Sequoia Limited and 2016 Land Cruiser 200 in our garage. The Land Cruiser feels MUCH better to drive in my opinion. The Seqouia feels like driving a boat - really heavy and leaning in the corners, poor sense of where the footprint of the car is for maneuvering and parking, bouncier suspension, and unresponsive steering - you really feel the weight, size, and lumbering nature of the Sequoia daily. The Seqouia is very much more like a truck to maneuver, and to me, it was a chore to drive by comparison.

I bought my Land Cruiser 200 without even test driving it, and was pleasantly surprised how natural and easy it felt to drive - I often say it's like an extension of my body with how direct and assured the driving experience is. It's not exactly a sports car or anything in responsiveness and feeling, but it does feel about as good as any SUV of this size can.

The Seqouia is much more spacious inside however, and the size can be felt from the driver's seat to give more of a commanding "large and in charge" feeling while driving. The fold flat seats give much more cargo capacity as well, and you have the option for captain's chairs in the second row.

If the priority is taking 5 or more people and their cargo around regularly, I would most likely opt for the Sequoia just for practicality sake. There's a noticeable increase in room for both passengers and cargo. You get 20 cu ft or so more of cargo space in the Seqouia with the third rows in each folded versus the LC200, and around 40 cu ft more with both rows folded. Thats almost 3 Camry trunks more of cargo space with both rows folded.

If the priority is just about anything else, I'd take the LC200 any day.

This is currently my dilemma. Wife and I purchased a 2017 Sequoia Limited last year at this time. I didn't have a whole lot of time to research as my '02 Tahoe had it's AC go out, and with the other steering issues and leaking oil, we decided it was time for it to "go to a farm up north." I knew I wanted to do some overlanding, but never really got into it with budget and baby. So we got it. Since then, I've been researching and there just isn't a lot available for the Sequoia. You can get a front bar, and some Dobinson springs and shocks, but really, anything else would be custom. I'm not even sure you can get lockers. Yes, it's the same engine as the LC, but that's about it. Plus the thing is like driving an actual Sequoia tree. It's enormous. I knew it was big going into the purchase, but it's huge. There are only 3 of us, and it just seems way too big. I will say it was nice taking 6 other co-workers in it to lunch at the same time.

Since the purchase last year, I've been researching overlanding rigs. I've really enjoyed watching videos from Andrew St. Pierre White (Australian/South African) and his builds. Its been pretty obvious that the big players are Jeep, Toyota and Land Rover. Well, 2 of those have not amazing service records. That leaves Toyota. I did test drive a 4Runner, but coming from a V8, it just seemed neutered. I sat in a GX460. I thought it's suspension was too complicated and could be more hassle than it's worth. That really leave the Tundra (same "big" issue as the Sequoia) and the LC. Guess which vehicle won?

So the wife and I looked at the budget and decided an LC200 was possible. We went out and test drove one, and it's immediately apparent it's a higher quality drive than the Sequoia. Steering was tighter, much quieter inside, and just putting the thing into gear was way smoother and quieter. There are loads of mods for it and spare parts should be plentiful for the next 10+ years. So that's what we're doing. The Sequoia is paid off and we're in the market!

I replaced a Tahoe with a 2016 LC two years ago, and was deciding between it an a new Sequoia. I drove the Sequoia fairly extensively before buying the LC. I agree with all of timjax’s points. A few other random points:

1.) the Sequoia is huge inside, much bigger than the Tahoe; the LC is much smaller inside than either. If you need a kid hauler then look closely at the limited storage space in the LC.

2.) the interior of the Sequoia is really dated, but the radio is double DIN sized. I was looking at aftermarket head units with screens bigger than the OEM, with aftermarket 360 cameras like the LC has standard. This is such a nice feature when parking a big SUV.

3.) the Sequoia is no LC in terms of hardcore off-road use, but it has a good 4WD system that can be used on or off road (with a center diff), it has better ground clearance than the LC, and can fit larger than stock tires without modifications. If you’re talking about camping trips, fire roads, etc, the Sequoia is plenty capable. Width & wheelbase will limit where it goes but for many it’s all you would need

4.) My LC is the tow vehicle for a saltwater fishing boat, which it’s great at, but my guess is the Sequoia would be better as a tow vehicle.

Thanks for the responses, they confirm what I figured. I’m hauling a lot but not too much, and I’ll be doing mountain driving, some off-road. LC is a better choice I think.

I was faced with the same choice and ended up going with a 2013 LX570 vs a newer Sequoia. I drove many of them and researched them both extensively. It only took one test drive in 08 LC with 105K to let me know which way was better for me. I knew within the first 3 minutes that I preferred the feel and drive of the 200 series platform. Like many of the response, it should come down to priorities and fit for purpose. Both are nice. FWIW my brother just bought a used Sequoia and loves it, but he has three kids, a wife, two dogs and tows a boat. You really can't go wrong with both if you buy based on what you really need. For us, we are only a family of three and my wife is not keen on driving really large vehicles. Although sometimes I do wish the LX had some more cargo space. Good luck.

Outside these vehicles both being large SUVs, they should not be cross shopped. For 99% of the population, the Sequoia is the right vehicle and at a much lower price point. For room, towing, and general usage the Sequoia is a far better choice for most people. There is a reason that Toyota sells FAR fewer Land Cruisers than Sequoias. The LC is not an average vehicle for the average consumer.

But

I still wanna a LC

There is far more than “tighter steering” that separates the two. If that’s the highest on your list, perhaps something from the big 3 will better suit your needs.

Budget is shot...........

ordered a new Teardrop 2 months ago...............6 months more to wait........

Uh oh... thread hijack incoming.

Which teardrop did you end up with? There may be one in my future. Living in a LC down by the river!

We have a 2018 Sequoia (4WD Limited) and a 2015 LC. The LC is my wife’s daily, and I thought after some time I could get her to take the Sequoia and I could have the LC. If nothing else just to keep her in the newer unit ;). We have 4 kids, and the Sequoia is much more functional as a kid hauler, but I can’t pry the LC keys from her.
The Sequoia is what we always take on road trips, and it does great. I’m more than satisfied with both vehicles. However, trying to compare the LC to the Sequoia is apples to oranges.
The steering feel on the Sequoia to me is a little more numb than the LC, but it’s never been an issue and I certainly wouldn’t call it loose. Just providing some feedback.

Didn’t someone a while back. post up a comparison of the two based on build quality? If so, please add the link.

We looked hard at a TRD Pro Sequoia before committing to the LC last year. Most of everything listed here mirrors our sentiments between the two. The biggest difference is interior space, if the LC had the space of the Sequoia I'd love it even more, but then it wouldn't excel at what it does in its current form. You can't have it all, but the LC is definitely in a different class and I would take it over a Sequoia every single time.
