Only $150-200? I'm 20, limited budget, and I put over $300/month in gas.

I still wouldn't even think of selling my truck.
I stand corrected. I believe it prolly is $300/depending on extra driving. I think the masses agree. I don't have a payment on it, The FJ is fun to drive but is equiv. in gas mileage. Plus if we go anywhere as a family(6 members), buying a commuter is not logical. Altho I did spot a '03 tdi vw with 80k on it. Asking price around 12k(seems high).

Gas may climb, but in the long run, I think it will have to come down.I do have to get that a/c thing dealt with soon...

It's all good . I wasn't trying to prove you wrong or anything, just that I pay more for gas and I'm probably half your age. :hillbilly:

But you probably have more vehicles, and bills to pay...:hhmm:

I drove a 40 for a day and decided maybe later in life when I have time to tinker more. Then I drove an FJ Cruiser for a day (next day actually). Looks cute, drives o.k. but it's a bit like being in a tank wrt visibility. Got over my infatuation with both pretty quick.....then started on my 4 month quest to buy the 80 that I wanted.

Don't sell it for an FJ Cruiser. You and your wife will regret it.

There isn't another vehicle in the universe (that I am willing to drive) that I could drive for what I pay to drive my 80. When you factor in the total monthly payment from car payment, gas, insurance, upkeep, etc. it isn't even close. Even with a few smartly planned mods a year, I'm still way ahead of the game versus buying a new hybrid or a TDI Jetta or something similar.

I'm sure some could get away cheaper with a cheap, old, no-payment econo-box, but even that doesn't add up for me with my 8-mile round trip to work. Even cheap liability insurance didn't flush out ~ for me, it just doesn't make any sense to park the Cruiser and drive something "cheap."

Another factor I overlooked- liability insurance. Having a new rig=full coverage. Ya we are keeping it.
