Gotcha. I'm considering replacing mine with 1/4 ply. My carpet is old and dingy looking, plus that panel and the push pins are not deep enough to allow any insulation/sound deadening to go behind it. I spent a lot of effort sound deadening my interior and that tail gate panel is a real weak point. Lots of noise coming in through there.

I think a thin sheet of SS would move around and make too much noise, wouldn't it? Something like thin ply or a phenolic sheet might work better. If you can integrate a cutting board and cupholder or two into it that would be a real win!

What ideas did you have for this? Just a plain panel or something more?

$600 for the wagongear system is tad high to fix this problem (tailgate). It's a nice system but I'm looking for work table more than storage.

My tail gate has 80mil butyl/foil in it. A trick piece that screwed into the tail gate with a solid surface is all I want.

I know 1407 a bit and I just need to convince him to make one :) or more... TrekBoxx accessories right :)

Although my wagongear door is super nice, I could see it as a diy project with a piece of 3/16 aluminum, a piano hinge and some sort of locking mechanism.

Go to a restaurant supply store. Buy a nice piece of bulk cutting board material. Mount using nutserts. Clean, useful, cool.

That's a good idea. A little pricey for a 4x8 sheet, but it looks like you could probably cut 3 out of one sheet (I estimate each one roughly 15"x53"). Can you cut this stuff with a fine blade or is there a better way?

Genius!

Normal woodworking tools will cut HDPE or UHMW (not a blade- think table saw/router). HDPE is your standard cutting board plastic stuff. King Starboard is a brand that you can find at TAP plastics, and has a decent texture to it. I bought some to test for the cutting board in my cargo system design, but went with a different product instead. It would work great for your tailgate, as long as you don't mind that it's a bit slick. You'd want to go with at least 3/8" IMO- it's not very rigid. That's why I ended up scrapping it for Trekboxx, I went with a much more rigid (and expensive) product. I don't know what I will end up with for my tailgate- my truck mat has been working quite well.

I'm pretty set that I'll be buying a CNC machine. I'll come up with something for you guys...

Sounds pretty cool. I might be interested in one if you decide to make them. Any idea what it will look like? Will it just bolt down in place of the carpet? Beveled edges?

I have a table saw, but been putting off making a router setup just because I haven't had the need yet.

I knew I could badger you into this idea :)

Yeah, you're quite the sweet talker, Rob!

Yes, I imagine it would have countersunk bolt/machine screws that thread into nutserts set into the existing holes for the carpet. Beveled or at least "eased" edges, etc. I'd probably just cut them out on the CNC if there was a need. Finding the perfect material would be the challenge... I'd probably use what I'm using for cutting boards- google "Richlite". Pretty cool stuff!

How's it going with the jigging and fab?

I noticed you gave more clearance around the sides than most cargo barriers...

Will the cargo barrier part of your system be compatible with side curtain air bags and rear AC?

Sorry I haven't been on in a while... I'm still pushing forward. This has been very trying. I've considered pulling the plug a couple of times, but I've come too far... There's one more last big piece of the puzzle, and I hope to have it pretty much sorted this week. We'll see.

As far as the cargo barrier- Yes, I made it inboard to give clearance for the curtain airbags. And yes, this fits 3rd row air models. However, I cannot possible test it and I do not and will not make any claims as to their effectiveness in a crash. "Off-road use only." Use at your own risk. I will say, however, that I have a young child who's place is middle row center, and I'm very happy to have him there:)

Sounds like there is toooo much liability for the hundred series. You should really just focus on the 80. Only half of them even have std air bags.

Still hoping you get tooled and the timing works out. You have a great product. It will be successful once it gets to market

Cheers,

Bump for update

Cheers
