Mounting points will be different. The 100 has nice retained nuts in the floor to hold drawers in place(from 3rd row). It's been too many years I don't recall the floor in my 80 having the same. The third row seats were bracketed to the wheel wells.

You have nice nuts to retain your drawers.

They do.

Progress!

Just a quick update- The work on the first "production" system has finally begun! While it is being built, I'll be busy with the website, hardware, packaging and shipping logistics, and other misc. excitement.

I'm hopeful that I'll have a working system in a month or so. Then I can start documenting the install for an instruction manual, etc. I'm not looking forward to taking my existing system out- I like it and it's set up the way I want... But, it will probably show up in the classifieds in the near future.

Thanks to all for your input! I have adopted some of the ideas offered here, and some not. But, they were all good food for thought. I know I can't please everyone, but hopefully at least a few... before the wife decides a divorce is in order!

I wouldn't know how nice their nuts are, or even if they have them...

I see what you did there....

Also great to hear that the production has begun for this drawer system, looks like a great product to me! If only I had a use for drawers

You'd come up with a use for them, that's for sure! Someone here on mud said this- and they were right-"They are life-changing." Well, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but you get the point!

1407 - just checking in to see how things are going.

Are you ready to get started on the 80 Series... Will be looking for the drawers for next spring! Sorry to put the pressure on but this system is just too cool.

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. As things go, it is taking longer than I'd hoped. There was quite a delay due to my CNC guy's wife (who's been in a wheelchair for years) being hospitalized. I, of course, was patient. Family first. He's back on the grid now and has been working with me daily making parts and getting through some technical difficulties with the cad to cam conversion. Sorry, guys- bear with me!!! Soon...

I know that you are well in to the process of building but I thought I could still add a comment. I've had the same drawer system in my 100 for several years (maybe 8?) and it has served well. I think the guy who built it might have gone out of business by now -- his website no longer works. I use the drawers for keeping shotguns and other equipment secure and organized and dog kennels on top.

What I really like is that it has a push button combo lock which doesn't require keys to access.

Comments are always welcome! I do like the idea, I just hadn't found any I really liked. Do you have any pictures of the locks you'd like to share? Yes, we are past that for this one but I will constantly be looking to improve the product. Actually, a buddy of mine found and suggested a lock that can be keyed/programmed to work with your ignition key. I thought this was a great idea until I thought about a valet attendant or a mechanic... I'd want a separate key that would stay in my pocket...

Thanks for the insight!

Whatever lock you chose, would I be correct in assuming that it can be left in either the locked or unlocked position?

I can think of very few instances where I'd want to actually have to use a key to unlock and then open the drawers. That extra step would end up being a hassle. So hopefully you'd be able to leave it unlocked the majority of the time and only lock it when the need arose.

Yes, absolutely. I almost never lock mine, but when I do it's nice to have that ability. I also thought long and hard about having the two drawers keyed differently. I thought it might be nice to allow your kids, for example, access to the locked main drawer but keep your pistol or whatever in the smaller drawer. But I knew my needs were probably different than most, and it might be seen as a real pia to alot of folks to have two keys for one system. So, it took me awhile, but I got the two different style locks keyed alike. Perhaps it's an option I could offer if there is interest.

Not sure what he was thinking, but if you could make them lock core compatible, owners could install their own locks if needed, and it could match our other Yakima accessories. It would be pretty slick to have one key that worked all my bike racks plus the rear drawer system!
