I'm going to remove my electric/leather seats. Anyone know if there are direct bolt in mechanical seats from other Toyotas? Or am I going to have to find a salvaged 80 series with the normal seats in it?

Basically removing carpet, most plastic panels and will be rhino coating most of the inside, covering 2nd and 3rd row seats with vinyl, eventually replacing electric windows with good old roll ups too.

I've only tried a couple and I've had no success. I tried a newer 4 Runner SR5 with the lumbar. And I tried a Celica GT (like 91 is era). No luck on either. I'd really look for 93-94 grey factory cloth seats. I like them better than the 91/92. Occasionally you can find cloth in 95-97s but it is pretty rare. I run into one about every two years.

OK first question (caveat no I'm not going to ask if you SEARCHED) WHY, WHY, WHY? I may just not be thinking outside the box but what purpose do you intend for this Truck or are you just out of you ever loving mind? .............. Oh and if you do have an explantation well lets hear it. :princess:

Luke,

(Am I your father?)

On US models, the "normal" seats are the power seats with leather. Non-power w/cloth are out there but fairly rare. You might find someone that will swap with you.

Replacing with vinyl might be costly. There are some good cloth covers available at very reasonable prices. SOR has some heavy canvas-like material; Great Covers has some nice cloth material that is the same as factory cloth. These are designed to go over the factory cloth or leather.

I'm not sure of the rationale on replacing the electric windows. You'll have to get C-Dan (or someone else) to source some expensive parts from Japan (parts destined for the Oz market). We have had very few failures of the electric windows and some PM on the mechanism and driver-side switch panel should keep you going for many trouble-free years. I could understand going manual if the electics were a problem; but neither the electric seats or windows are much of a problem. (Now the antenna is a different story....)

reasons

To answer why? Because electric seats and electric windows annoy the hell out of me. I would prefer to have a manual transmission in my 80 series too, but obviously that complicates things even more. If I only had a FJ 55 or 60 with 80 series full floater, locked, disc axles a 80 series engine or the HD turbo diesel with a 4 speed manual tranmission/transfer case out of a 60 series and so on.

Besides, leather sucks, my seats specifically the drivers seat is in pieces, I run practically every day 4-12 miles and I weigh around 230 pounds, so I tend to hop in my Cruiser and drive away rather soaked with sweat thus soaking the seat too. I also whitewater kayak, so I have a lot of wet gear in the Cruiser on the weekends stinking up the carpet. Plus there's submerging the thing in mud which tends to get in everything too.

Basically I use my Cruisers for what they are designed for = abuse and have been for about 15 years now.

The vinyl in the 87 4x4 Toy pickup I drove for years lasted about 300,000 miles, the windows always went up and down at the same speed despite the handle breaking off.

I live by a simple philosophy. K.I.S.S.

That seems really contradictory to me.

Being "annoyed" and thinking that something "sucks" even though it still fxns and believing "abuse" is the normal way to treat equipment is not my idea of K.I.S.S. Imagine you're in a country where that's all you have - choices are for wealthy consumerist pigs. Then if something works, electric, manual, cloth, leather or nothing, you're just grateful that your ass is still in a truck that runs and you don't have to crawl under it to shift. Abusing your junk just means it's more likely to fail when you don't want or need it to. Sheesh, go live in Africa or S.A. for a year - join the Peace Corp - and you'll spend less time thinking about how to yank out crap that still works. But if you're still fixated, I say get some seat covers.

peace corp?

Why waste time in the Peace Corps? I've allready been in the Marine Corps and trugged through third world conditions. Besides the Peace Corps only exists so drug addicts can use there drugs in coutries where they are legal, or at least not enforced against. I've known a few Peace Corps folks in my day.

What is a non consumption, American's are fat pigs person doing on a friggin LandCruiser chat board anyway? Last time I checked most landCruiser driver's enjoyed throwing money away on expensive trucks and breaking mech components unnecessarily?

There are horse's you know? Besides, my legs have carried me farther than a Cruiser ever will.

Just a friendly comment, the 93 factory cloth non power seats SUCK!
Wanna buy mine?

I think it's a great idea....what color is your leather? I'll take it if it's grey. ;)

Damn, quit hammering the guy! Just because he wants to make modifications on his rig that someone else doesn't is no reason to start slamming him. FAWK! If he wants to spend a zillion dollars switching his power windows to manual, then rock on brother.

As for being a Marine, you have my respect!

Um - I've got the cloth in mine and really like it...in fact I searched for a long time to find a rig without leather. The manual seats go further back because they don't have a power motor to restrict them ... hence more leg room (which comes in handy when your tall). Besides - the leather has a neat way of splitting and cracking in 80s :flipoff2:

The only drawback was not being able to find one w/ cloth and lockers

I like my 94 cloth seats too much better than the crappy leather (I've had both). Cloth and Lockers, do you like the tan/beige color. Best bet for cloth and lockers. I have personally touched a 97 with black exterior and grey cloth interior with lockers but it was a fluke I think. The guy claimed to have ordered it that way. I've never heard of anyone being able to specify anything on a LC. But maybe his dealer swapped everything out for him???
