I have read several posts on seat extensions for the early 40 series. As you know, these were designed for short Japanese people. Well, I'm 6'5" and when I first got my 40, I barely fit in it. There was no way I could drive it.

So..... I read up on extension kidts and even some fabricated brackets. Most had the front drivers side seat bracket cantilevered and some even had the back cantilevered the same way. Many people who did this said it was fine but I did want to trust my 240 lb self to any cantilevered piece of metal. So, I just put a solid piece of metal above the brackets.

I have pics below bit I basically used 1 1/2" flat bar stock 1/4" thick. You can get both sides of the seat out of a 4' stick of metal. The other nice thing is that the rear posts can simply be turned around. They are offset so that's how much room you will get. This method gets you just under 2" of leg room. Trust me, 2" makes a huge difference.

This is slightly different than what I had seen done before so I hope this helps someone looking to move the seats back.

Someone asked me about this yesterday. I thought I would bump the original post in the event that anyone here is looking for some extra leg room in their stock 40. It was a necessity for me. :steer:
