We need to get some scouting trips in and locate some new trails in our area.

I'd like to get some scouting trips together for Jan and Feb.

I'm working with the officers on coming up with a format that will reward members who find trails for the club.

I'm very interested.
I know some prospects btwn SC/NC line and Hendersonville NC but I won't give up anything until I find out about these 'rewards'.

Anybody heading that way scouting give me a shout via PM.

What about caliente and cracker's neck? I think that's what they are called. I believe they are just west of Boone, NC in Tenn.

Whenever.

Also Cruiser4life told me of some good wheeling between Tellico Springs TN and Tail of the Dragon in NC.

Matt... we went' in there it was a beautiful area but has been graveled for the most part and unfortunately you have to acquire a key via a hunting license to access the area; and it is closed at the SC border so it is an in and back out the way you can trip. so we never really pursued any futher it was to bad they gated and graveled it; those pictures you posted of the area were amazing....

As for scouting for trails I am all about it!!! I know of a few trails up in them der hills

East of Clayton GA on the Chattooga River. I'm planning on doing a scouting run in the area. Planning on going sat morning scouting all day and then camping on the river and doing a little scouting on Sun. Used to camp there a lot in college.

Going Jan 26th.

Anyone who wants to join me can.

Pencil me in.
My son spent 5 summers in there working at Camp Rainy Mtn. Looks like pretty good territory. I know whenever he took my fwd Toyota p/u down there it came back covered in mud.

I did some backpacking up there the same week I picked up my FJ about a year and a half ago. We were on the west side of the river. I'd love to go back to that area.

[EDIT] I won't be able to go that weekend, previous engagement. BUT, that is the exact location we started hiking. I pulled up my old TOPO file and we parked pretty much at your long/lat and then hiked down the Chattooga River trail for a couple miles until we found a nice spot right on the banks of the river. We had planned to hike all the way down to the parking lot at the bridge (Hwy76). But after leaving an Accord at the lower lot, we realized that there was no way the Accord would make it back to my FJ on the rough road I took in. We camped, then retraced our path back to my FJ the next day. That was August 5, 2006 and it was hot and humid that time of year. January would be a nice contrast.

Yup, just 2 miles south of there. Troll's coords put you right at Sandy Ford. Wish I could go. It's one area of N.GA I'm not very familiar with and would like see more of.

The Bartram (hiking) trail goes through there too.

Yeah I have Hiked from Burrels ford down to Russel bridge. Great hike. 13-14 miles I think. I cannot tell you how many times I've camped on the SC side of Sandy ford. But it has to be well over 25 times. Good times there hanging out on the beach looking at the stars drinking beer. Also that was where we put in when I kayaked. Nothing like hitting the narrows within the first couple hundred yards.

So glad I found something else to do.

Ok who wants to go Backpackin with some cold weather camping!!!! I've been itchin for a long time to do some backpacking....and I love that chattoga trail out of burrells ford....who wants to go!

What about some of the stuff in the Cohutta Wilderness in GA. I was trying to find a hiking trail map and couldnt but I found one that lists 4 ORV trails. Rocky Flats, Wilma Creek, Tibbs, and Tatum Lead, none of them is actually in the wilderness all right around it. Thats all I really know though. Maybe GA Cruisers would know more.

Would love to but I will have to wait a little more. Still trying to get over from being sick. This next trip for me will be a good sign if I'm ready or not.

Gonna have to be a 5 mile or less trip though as my fat ass is out of shape.

I'd be all up for a Black Balsam, Pink Beds, Graveyard Fields, John Rock or even just a small walk to Sandy Ford.

If you guys are backpacking, you should look at panthertown up in Cashiers....actually between cashiers and glenville, nc
