Posted on AZ TLCA also.

Intro - long time cruiser owner and Mud poster too. Original owner of a '94. Currently located in SoCal, but right now, temporary job in Scottsdale is going to have me there two weeks each month and here in SoCal 2 weeks. Hope it turns into a permanent job! Will be staying over the middle weekend and looking for suggestions of things to do/go see on the weekend.

Golf will be a part of those weekends, but that only fills half the day. I will not be driving the cruiser over. Will be in my commuter Prius to save on gas, so wheeling excursions aren't in the picture right now. Wife may come over on some of the weekends, but we're not sure yet.

Suggest away!

If you havent been, a trip to Sedona is worthy ~

do you like hiking? then a hike up Camelback Mtn or Toms thumb is a good AZ experience.

Other than that what do you like to do: Clubbing, antiquing, art, outdoors, dining, ? If you can you share some interests you and your wife like?

take a drive up South Mountain . . . great views

AZ88 as a Sunday drive - can combine with visit to Tonto National Monument

Jerome is funky, and could be combined with a ride on the Verde River Railroad

for a weekend afternoon visit, see if Carefree has one of their little festivals going on or just look at the giant sundial - the English Rose Tea Room is famous for their scones

leisurely loop drive: up Pima Road, right onto Dynamite - becomes Rio Verde Drive, at the bottom, take a left and go to Needle Rock State Park - when you come back proceed straight into Rio Verde, along the McDowell Mountain Park, into Fountain Hills; have a beer in the Sportsbar or wine at the Wine Bar by the Fountain - return from Fountain Hills to Scottsdale

in Scottsdale proper: Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation - Soleri Foundation - Soleri bridge, downtown waterfront, downtown "western" area - Modern Art Museum - hike Pinnacle Peak - when it gets cooler: rent roller skates and enjoy the Indian Bend/Hayden Road parks

hike McDowell Mountains, either in the Park (between Fountain Hills and Rio Verde), or from trailheads at CD Ranch, McDowell Mountain Ranch or 124th Street off of Shea

nice view restaurant for a special occasion: Alchemy at Copperwynd - arrive well before sunset for the best views

Eat at The Henry or go have a cocktail to unwind after work (44st n Camelback).
People watch at the Scottsdale Fashion Square, buy your wife something possibly
Hike Camelback Mountain and Squaw Peak
Check out old town Scottsdale, browse the art galleries and grab a beer in any of the pubs around there, weather is nice after work to "stroll".
Eat at the Olive n Ivy by the Scottsdale Fashion Square for lunch or dinner, great open space on the canal

as for downtown Scottsdale galleries: Art One is my favorite - they feature local artists at affordable prices, including high school and college students

Thanks for some great suggestions guys! The hiking and drives to get to know the area sound good. The wife and I spend a good deal of time both Saturday and Sunday on the golf course for our weekend enjoyment. I love primitive camping, she prefers a Hilton! Will go explore! Thanks!!!

I think the mud camp, hike recommendations are well covered. I will take a little different approach.
If you want to pamper yourselves and get to some beautiful hiking trails I would book a room t L'Auberge in Sedona. They have a great spa and restaurant, beautiful grounds and quick access to some trails. It may pain you to ride in a jeep, but there are several jeep tours that can get you out into some more remote areas to enjoy the area more than you can from a Prius.

If you enjoy college football, NFL games, or frankly any sporting event then go to CBCB ( Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers) in old town Scottsdale. They have really good food (think awesome sports bar food, not surf and turf), a great place to enjoy a morning or afternoon game, eat some good food and do some people watching. Bottomless mimosas for like $12 should ensure the :princess: has a good time and that you will have a good time afterward;)

Near Old Town Scottsdale is the Talking Stick Resort and Casino. This can be a fun place to have a date night. The food at the Ocean Trail restaurant is very good and the "Pan Roast" dish is enough for two and is so damn good I wan't to head over there now.

Like foody gourmet eclectic restaurants? Make a reservation to Cibo in downtown Phoenix. It is basically in the middle of an old neighborhood and in a converted old two story home. The majority of the dining is out in the front yard on tables. Known for their amazing wood fire pizza oven you will want to try some Pizzas and save room for the Nutella crepes desert. It's about the only desert I ever eat. This is an ideal place to take some couples along as it provides it's own conversation starters and is a lot of fun.

Hey Brent, a SoCal80 transplant here. You may want to reconsider and bring the 80 with you at least once... Mine has been set up for a while due to work and travel. Not exactly in Scottsdale but nice drive out towards Apache Junction (about 30-45 min drive) you can check out the Superstition Mountain Museum and the Goldfield Ghost Town http://goldfieldghosttown.com/ pretty similar to Calico Ghost Town.
But like I said you should bring the 80 out for at least one weekend. Especially if you plan on travelleing back and forth during the next couple of months as this is Arizona wheelin season.

ScottyDog,

I'll keep an eye on this site for any activities and bring the truck over if something comes up.

As we all well know, it's a lot more expensive to bring the truck over than a Prius! ;) Tank and a half vs less than a tank. 80 in the Prius isn't anything. The truck, well, 80 is pushing it!
