Wow, I just got another set installed in my regular cab Tacoma not long ago and I was kinda afraid of this outcome initially but I have slightly a bit more room to tilt mine back and can make adjustments. Looks like you have zero room in that ute.

Did you keep these or swap them out?
I still have have them. My but must be too skinny seat bottom still gets sore after sitting for long hrs. I’ll just keep them for now. Seat back is better than factory. End August I plan on traveling at least for one week, will see how that goes.

hard agree. I have SM seats. once i sat in a set of recaros in a restored defender, im pretty bummed on my SM seats

Why are you bummed with your SM's?

I don't disagree that the flatter thigh bolster versions (F=Flatter thigh cushions on seat bottom) make it easier to get in/out of a Cruiser, especially one with a lift/larger tires, however if you're skinnier like I am, I've always found the R (R=Raised thigh cushions on seat bottom) to hold me into the seat better. Of course a Cruiser isn't a sports car, but still I prefer to be hugged in the seat more than less. Why I like my current Recaro Monaco's in my J159 since they have taller thigh bolsters--when entering the truck I just step onto the slider and also pull myself up with the grab handle.

The build quality on the SM seats don’t really reflect the price. Recaros are noticeably nicer

I admit I am biased but I have no issues with the build quality of my scheel-manns in my HZJ77 or the Tacoma. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another set.

Not hating on Recaro brand at all either.

Interesting feedback. SM's still made in the same small town in Germany, most Recaro's are no longer made in Germany. I would have thought ze Germans would outbuild others.

I may have to retract this statement, sort of.

The ones in my HZJ77 still look like new after several years of regular use already so no complaints there.

The drivers side one in my Tacoma is already showing a cosmetic defect on the lower bolster after only 4 months of use. It is not a wear issue but more with the foam inside the bolster getting deformed or so it appears. Certainly not what I expect after only 4 months of regular use. The odd part is that it like popped up like a pimple on your face. One day it wasn't there and the next day it is.

Reached out first to the vendor the sold me them but didn't get a response so I reached out to scheel-mann and they said they would look into it and share the photos with Germany. That was almost month ago now.

I do want to say the scheel-mann USA team are great folks and they seem to want to make things right but they can only do so much because the buck seems to stop with the folks in Germany when it comes to making a decision on how to remedy the situation. Maybe I am wrong about all of that but that is the impression I am getting.

Overall, I still love these seats and the feel of them for me personally when sitting in them but I can't buy a set of seats again for $5K when they might show wear or defects after only 4 months.

I’ll forward this and see if I can get a response

Thank you but they are already working on it. I think the outcome is going to depend on what they hear from Germany.

You are not the only one dissapointed with the SM , I know of a few other folks witch cruisers that are dissapointed with the abnormal wear and tear their SM seats are showing in only a short period of use .

Hope they do you right and sort it out , they are priced to come with a full maintenance contract right ;)

They called me today while I was at work, had a great conversation with Jesse and they are taking steps to remedy the issue. I appreciate you reaching out to them.
👍 Happy to help! I’m not always on here, but anyone is welcome to reach out through official channels scheel-mann with concerns and questions.

Thank you. It was great talking to you. Maybe one day I can see your operation up north and check out some seats in person.

I am late to update this thread. I was in Tupelo at the Toyota plant there for a few days.

Before I left for my trip, I did install a replacement scheel-mann seat in the Tacoma provided by the folks at scheel-mann and sent the other one back for them to review. Thank you @wngrog & @ae86andkp61

I am confident this one in the Tacoma will stay nice just like the ones in my HZJ77.

Came across this thread while doing some research on Scheel-mann seats. This is the only place where someone compared them to the Recaro experts. which is perfect, someone mentioned how SM is spoken about mainly on here and other similar forums and it always positive and I'm sure they're great seats. Anyway My driver seat is torn and awful to sit in for more than an hour so I looked into reupholstering but am looking at over 1k which makes me prefer just buying new seats (80 series seats are just not great for tall people). Anyway i can pick up a new set of Recaros Expert M for about 1300$ EA locally, no tax or shipping, might even get them cheaper if i haggle. But as mentioned i was under the impression that SM are the creme de la creme of seats so i automatically thought of digging the extra cash for SM (about 5.5k vs 3k Recaros, pricing includes brackets). Its been a year since you guys compared the 2 and i wanted to see if the extra time living with either seat has changed your opinion on either seat? Are the SM not worth the extra cost? I havent sat in either but im about 6'2, hopefully will get to try both this weekend.

I am 6'1 , around 240lb and 34 inseem . I had a set of Scheelman Vario in my 2016 HZJ78 troopy and never really felt right sitting in them . For me the Recaro Expert is a better fit , I have imported some of the special Recaro seats that are made for first responder vehicles in Europe and love them , they have lower bolsters to get in and out easier and have a more heavy duty upholstery , they don't look as fancy or expensive as some of the SM models but I am after functionality not looks .
