It means any quality engine used in a theoretical environment should last a very long time. Some engines in the real world really do last a very long time.. Some examples: AMC 258/4.0, Ford 300, SBC, Dodge 318, Cummins 6BT.

Ha, ha . . . fair enough. ;)

Depending on a couple variables, absolutely.

Thanks Mace. This is interesting. I've usually assumed that an engine with lower compression was on a slippery slope to failure. This might also explain this JohnnyC quote:

. . . my cruiser had over 200,000 when i bought it was very excessive blowby...disconected the hose ands routed it to vent to the bottom of the truck...told myself i'll wait till it blows before i change the engine...never happened...18 years later and 400,000+ miles on the engine i replaced it because of the excessive oil leaks and roadkill was moving faster on the road than me :meh:

To answer a previous question... Mine was my first and only conversion' and I'd estimate close to 100 hours for me to accomplish it on my own (plus a bit of time to source parts). Which is more or less in line with a month for two guys working on the weekends.

Can experienced guys do if faster? Yes. But I'm talking for an average guy, with little to no outside assistance, to install, check clearances, double check, triple check, modify motor mounts to make em work, have someone weld in the mounts, relocate the radiator, have driveshafts modified, wire it, sheet metal work, take it to an exhaust shop, and test drive it:D.

I should also mention, that my shakedown cruise was the worst snowstorm they'd seen here in a hundred years... No kidding.

So now I have picked up the remains of an FJ 45. Let this saga begin...
Your not to far from me, I'd love to come by and check out your 45 some day :bounce: (Highjack over)

A modern coil on plug fuel injected motor is black box voodoo to a lot of people..
I have to agree, to a point. You can purchase a complete modern SBC with a fly alone computer/fuel injection system. Price is a little steep for me. Then again a complete kit and fully dressed SBC, carb, can set you back less than $10k. I am currently wrestling with this. I have a recently rebuilt 2F, cam/headers/stock head and carb, in my 78 FJ40.

Welcome. Congrats on resurrecting up a 12 year old thread. What's a fully dressed SBC and what's the kit?
