That's just cost analysis. If I did that stuff, it would've cost me $600k in lost productivity at work.
Tell me about it. I should have taken short term leave to get mine finished. Ha. I’m going to do a shake down run tomorrow. It just hit 1k highway miles and I’m excited to get it on the trail tomorrow.

cant wait to call this base camp - only 66 more sleeps!
Someone finally reset their password 😂 Sitting out SAS this year, but looking forward to heading back next year. Hard to believe that picture is almost 9 years old!

They have fire rings and you can buy fire wood there as well 😁

The shakedown run was successful. We hit Spring Creek Trail outside of Idaho Springs/ Downieville, CO, which is an 8-rated trail. I have some work to do before it will be ready for another hardcore trail, but only a few loose ends for SAS. I should be all set!

Do a few shakedown runs as suggested. You won’t regret it. I cooked my power steering fluid and it boiled over and melted some wire loom. I put snow on the power steering box to act like an oil cooler so that we could keep traveling. Adding an oil cooler is an easy fix at home but it would have been a challenging fix in Ouray. I don’t have my PSC assist installed yet so I figured that I could run it the way that it has been for 25 years, and perhaps drive to Ouray as is but I was wrong. Those 40” tires really strain the system and that pump was smoking so bad that I thought that I blew a ring in the engine.

There is a video of the trip (minus the smoke part) in the build thread linked in my signature if you are interested.

Nice, Mike! That's super exciting. Push your cooling system hard as well, that gets a lot of people. It's gotten me at least once lol. A big power steering cooler will help a ton, I would oversize since ram assist adds a good bit of heat as well.

That cage is sexy 😉

Thanks! The cage is amazing. Thanks for making my napkin drawing a reality.

Good tip with putting the cooling system through a thorough test. Many people may not realize how hot that it gets in Ouray during the summer. I have had it in 100°F weather during rush hour traffic but yesterday was the first time up I-70. It was in the 80s and I was going the speed limit, and mostly in 5th gear, which really put a strain on the system. Everything checks out great so far!

Hey ladies for SAS! We will once again be doing a ladies run! Guys, if your person is capable please join us! We had an amazing run last year and want to open it up if anyone is interested! If so, I need your name and shirt size as we will have a special shirt FOR THOSE RUNNING THE TRAIL. That is the only way to get the shirt and limited edition sticker!

That was a super fun day. I may let Chanette’s daughter trail lead in my 80 for a bit. She needs to earn the sticker.
