Some bad news for Imogene Pass this year. From the San Miguel County road conditions website:

Update! After staff surveyed the damage on Imogene Pass, it was discovered that a section of retaining wall was lost. This caused severe erosion along a section where the road is blasted into the cliff between the Twin Falls and Royer Gulch. Due to this failure, Imogene Pass will most likely be closed to vehicular traffic for the remainder of this season, this includes Tomboy Road.

My very well connected long time local source reports that estimates of $500,000 are being floated for the repair with multiple funding options needed to get there including possible fund raising from local and 4WD sources.

I suspect that the reason why they included tomboy road in that update is because it appears that the August 2024 erosion on the Telluride side has not been fixed.

Last time I looked on the map it looks like there are some cool areas past Silverton on the Alpine loop but sour as it were. The USGS maps have some dirt roads and more mines. Who knows though as it’s hard to tell.

There are a ton of options that don’t get explored as often. These are taken outside of Creede.

I was just looking at pictures of Bolam Pass. That is a beautiful area. I need to put the phone down and finish my Cruiser so that I don’t miss out.

Bachelors loop in creede is a good time if your into old mines

The Phoenix Falls trail that I posted above is another loop that connects at two points to the Bachelors Loop using CR502 and East Willow Creek road as connection points. The road is pretty cool and somewhat rugged, though I’ve seen stock vehicles at the old townsite.

@SoTexCruiserDoc @DrRock There's a bunch of stuff you could incorporate to get more dirt time. Lime Creek Road, Ophir makes a loop, Last Dollar to catch a few more miles of dirt on the way back to camp, out and back pit stops at Alta Lakes or Hidden Lake. I've never been to either of those lakes, so I don't know how those roads are. I've never been on Lime Creek either but from what I can tell it's easy as well. Once you start adding in other roads or loops, it might be an 8-12 hour day. Last year we only did Bolam and included a stop for a picnic lunch. If it's going to be even longer this year - and what are we going to SAS for if not to go sightseeing on dirt/rocky roads the whole time? - maybe we ought to bring camp stoves and have dinner too. Not sure exactly what I want to do yet ... we'll see.
