I think that since you're saving so much money on the cab, you should get some chevy one tons... you know you want them!

Not saying NO, just not now!!

Anyway, what I thought would be a quick run up/run back trip turned into an all day affair, wife wanted to go... nuff said. Took a back roads path up 411(instead of I75) just to try it out as it's shorter by about 20 miles and came across a some "cheap" gasabout 30 miles south of TN:

Onto the new cab, Score!!! Who cares about the front fender, don't need anyway.

What is gas running down there? That's about where we ate up here. $2.67-$2.89. A few higher in the snotty parts, but in the ballpark.

Cab looks solid. Very interested in seeing how the graft goes.

Also, forget the tons, go diamond centered 9.5" rear and an 80 front with hell fire knuckles :smokin: that'd be sweet.

You and me both brotha!! Already done some preliminary scouting and think it's gonna be fairly straight forward but it's always easier on the drawing board.

typically around $2.95+/- right now so that was a bargain, even the Flying j in Resacca was $2.73 which is usually .10 cheaper than everywhere.

My favorite is that he has what I am assuming is a 18V grinder wired straight into the 12V battery on the truck!!
We used that on my axle on Fordyce. It's the kind of thing I'm surprised I haven't thought of before. GREAT idea. Take any old 12-18V power tool battery that will no longer hold a charge, gut it and simply add wires with clips. Ta-daa... "unlimited" DC power! Could even put on a 12V socket end on if you have the right fuse upstream; Or just make interchangeable ends to have both. All simple stuff... and cheap too.

I'm beat!! Thanks to everyone that helped today. Things went much better than I'd hope, grafting job near complete.

It's weird looking at my truck like this, no bed and green cab, just don't seem right.

Gonna try to wrap up welding he seems tomorrow and then clean them up as needed if its warmer than today. Then throw an electric sander at the new body and hopefully throw some rattle can paint on it before next weekend.

Wow you guys killed it today. And the doors fit too.

Of course they, what's the purpose of a full cab if the doors don't fit? :flipoff2:

Aint gonna pretend it's perfect but i gotta say it's far better and easier than I'd would've ever guessed. We probably just got lucky but I'm hoping this turns out well.

looks really nice Ted!

thanks Andrew!!

been at it since 10 this morning and I'm absolutely sick of welding s*** metal, oops, meant sheet, not really!!!! It's one thing to stitch together 2 pieces of perfectly fitting steel, it's an entirely different thing trying to weld a gap shut in this crap when all it wants to do is blow through. But, I'm done welding the damned thing, thank GOD!!

Now it's about time to seal up a few joints and put some gritty paper to the surface in prep for rattle canning it. Probably wont' happen till next weekend though, gotta busy week coming up and probably gonna miss the Tue meeting. Oh well, the "president" won't mind I'm sure.

Y'all did some fine work, looks good Ted.

Gettin' there Ben, thanks. Hey, doesn't "I'm gettin' a locker" Todd have a bunch of pics from AOP?

I don't think he took a bunch at AOP I'll ask him.

Update

getting a little more done through out the week. Threw 3 cans of cheapo primer at it and could use 10 more easy, good things it's only $1.50 a can.

Ben sent me a few pics that Todd took, thanks!!

Exo Cage and bed should get started this weekend, hoping for something a little more than sub-arctic weather though. So kickin' around ideas on the tube bed, threw the old cage on the back just for grins, kinda like the lines but not sold.

Will probably sell the old cage for a song if anyone is interested, obviously designed for a 3rd gen mini truck and will take some fab work to attach to frame.

Also got the sun roof moved from the old cab to the new one.

That is an awesome link, we need a permanent sticky.
Also, Ted, when can we make myself a new bumper? I need a lightweight tube bumper.

Hey Ted, what kind of bender do you guys have at the shop?

Not mine so don't know the name brand, it's a manual floor mounted tube bender. That said, most of my cage will be made of pipe using a HF pipe bender. My last cage was a 50/50 pipe and tube hybrid and it held up just fine plus cost will be about 25% of what a tube cage would be.
