Next up: Longfields and hydro assist!

So does this mean you're ready to test her out at GMP next weekend??? :)

on the road, completely different but I'm probably used to it being under geared. All the power is on the low end now which will be great for wheeling but definately suffers on the highway speeds, I figure 37's will fix that one day.

I wish but gotta break in the gears first and also headed to Marshal's next weekend. richmond says 200-300 miles for vehicles that "tow", not quite sure I fit that description but I figure it'll take about that long. :bang:

fyi-hydro is def on the short list.

We managed to strip out 2 steering arm studs in the knuckle (1 each) trying to put everything back together late last night so gotta fix that before any wheeling. :hhmm:

did one other thing today. With all the grease and crap from both my diff plug backing out awhile back and yesterday's grease/diff oil fest I picked up a gal. of Zep's Purple Degrease and sprayed the entire underside, let set 10-15 mins and pressure wash. Results--amazing, don't know what kind of kryptonite they put in there but my under carriage has never been so clean :flipoff2:

Keep me in mind if anybody needs stuff I might have; I'm liquidating most of my Yota stuff now. I wanted to go but that's just way too far from me to justify a weekend trip with my whole trailer full of parts. :(

Well there's a Toys 4 Tots run at Superlift in 2 weeks. That'd be a great drive to finish breaking in the gears! I hope to be there if anyone wants to join me.

Did ya do the diff shave? 'Ol girl ready put down a beatin on Morris Mountain?

She will be ready.

After Windrock I parked it at Johns for the last couple of weeks so Sat I went over to swap out tires for the drive to MM but before i did I aired up the 37s to 30psi and took it for a short road test. It rode great, no wobbles or anything and even the 5.29s handled the additional tire pretty well. That gives me the confidence to stat the hunt in earnest.

I have found a set of 15x8 BL wheels in Chatt for a very reasonable price but I think they're 4" BS which I'm not thrilled about. I'd much prefer to retain the width I have now but I don't want to pass up the opportunity.

So, it may come down to this as the price is virtually the same....
1) Buy the steel wheels in Chatt and be done with it
or
2) Buy the Alum BL new and weld to my wheels.

whatcha think?

Too much to type; we'll talk again this weekend wherever we end up for the ride. Lots of variables in this equation.

no need to rehash the BL thread but I think I have a handle on the pros and cons of each. For me it's really coming down to what I want versus what i can afford and will settle for. If I thought welding the aluminum BL to my wheels was easy I think it would be a no-brainer for the expense of +/-400. Honestly I'm just not sure I trust buying "weld-ons" from someone I don't know...

Well there are still variables that are more specific to you in nature that haven't been covered in the beadlocks thread. Specifics to your wheels and your tires we need to look at up close and in person.

If everyone comes down Friday night, we could have the beadlock debate around the fire that night.

I will debate the scientific merits, can I wear my lab coat?:D

What was the verdict for the damage at MM? Was it a birf or what?

don't know yet, haven't touched it. Been busy helping Nick on his 80

Nice, clean break.... weld it up and run it!!!

gonna move the valve stem to a more accessible location so drilled a 5/8" hole for the new stems. Then I picked up a cool trick off Pirate, before I mount up the tires I'm gonna add a drain cock 180* from the valve stem, the drain cock allows for easy air downs without having to go through the stem.

Pirate eh? You sure you didn't see those on my new beadlocks first? I was raving about them at MM & Windrock. But whatever. I guess if you'd rather give P4x the credit instead of a fellow GA Cruiser... haha.

One thing I wish was different on mine though: May be overkill but on mine the petcock and the new valve stem are both on the flat of the inner rim and, as you stated, 180° offset - perfect. However, the hole for the old stem, near the outer edge, instead of sealing it off, leave a shorty stem there. What I've found is that it would be very convenient to have one stem for a clip-on air chuck while having the other for constantly monitoring the pressure. This keeps from having to add air, check pressure, add air, check pressure, add air....... Just my opinion though.

Ted, I know we haven't talked about the MTR's in a while but you still want the 37's? I MIGHT be picking up two 38" SX spares on the K2 trip so I'll be fully ready to part with all 7 at that point.
