Thanks everyone for the concern and suggestions on what to do next.
I have the usual back soreness and I tore a ligament in my neck, but otherwise I'm alright. The vehicle that hit me was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which pushed me into an older truck, which was pushed into a car. There was an off duty police officer driving behind the Jeep and he said that the Jeep tires came off the ground several feet upon impact.
I just got a call from the body shop...18k worth of damage, so it's a total loss for me.

That is an expensive corner to fix, all the rear AC is in that quarter.
The cargo window did not break, so it could be a viable trail rig.

That really really sucks. How is your neck? I'm thinking your car is totaled and with the medical bills, cause I know your seeing a MD. Say $17k for your car and $5k in medical bills x's 3, you should walk away with about $60k without a lawyer and over$100k with one. Good luck.

In my first years of driving I rearended a woman due to stupidity of a teenager, and everything seemed ok. No one was hurt, more damage to mine and minor to hers, etc. She turns around and sues me for 40k for medical damages and extensive damage to her vehicle. She couldn't present the necessary proof and was debunked so it all fell through.

My point is that my family would have been put in a devastating place if that lawsuit would have gone through, and it was all because she wanted free cash. Greed's a bad thing, just saying.

Sounds like you were under insured should carry at least $100,000 liability coverage plus uninsured and under insured. You could of hit a Aston Martin

Yeah, really sucks when a 16 year old can only afford cheap insurance and then said insurance company drops you after the incident. My plan at the time was uber cheap but only went to 50k for single person/occurrence. I now have a very nice insurance package, but my point being is that you never know the situation someone is in, no need to try and screw em for some free dough. Plus even if your plan has a high coverage amount, any wreck like that is going to send your rates up. Enough of me and @SWUtah bitchen back to topic

Sorry to hear about this bro, I'd be pissed.

If there's a silver lining it's that you didn't dump another 10-15k in armor/upgrades only to have insurance company tell you it's not worth what you've invested.

Hope it all works out and you get the Cruiser of your dreams in the end.

Well, despite the heartbreak I found another 100! It's a year newer (2005) and has 50k less miles...for double the price of the first one. I'm stoked to be driving a LC again.

Dayum, ouch! Had to be a hard hit to move a 5000lb pig forward enough to do the front end damage.
If it were me I'd buy it back since it looks like it should run/drive straight, just look ugly. Then I'd go drop $2500 on a really good welder and a bunch of steel to go crazy with and make something unique. I wouldn't go full ute/truck, more a chop-top like a 4runner or "Tencha" (chopped white 60 series here on Mud)
