man, that's looking great. I agree that the sheen is awesome. Are you going to clear coat it when you are done?

Thanks man.
I'm not going to clear coat it.... i like to rally this rig! It will make touch up easy and nice. I cant wait to see it all together with the flat black.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my aluminum rim black. I was thinking powdercoat, but that is more time and more $$$$. any simple solultions or paint recommendations??????

Lookin great Alaska!

Well I got to wet sand the cruiser this morning. I went for a third coat and something strange happened in a couple of spots. It was like the paint wouldnt cure.? It startined to flake up in clumps.....? I think it was a bad can or something? I waited and sanded it down. My wife is trying to drag me out of the garage for the afternoon. She wants to play golf. I think I am going to go and get some sanity back........wait I am going to play golf? usually my swing leads me to insanity!
Oh well......Happy Wife, Happy Life ....right?
I'll get back to it this evening.

Lol... I was thinking the same thing!

Any chance that the paint was laid on thicker where you're having problems with it curing?

Golf went well.
I went right back at it upon arriving back home. I was able to have the final coat cure nice while I played golf. i painted the rockers flat black as well as the rock slides flat black. i also pulled the paper and tape...exposing some highlights of the windows and doors. It sure looks nice. i am very pleased so far. i was also able to fix the weird paint spots. i just sanded them down and hit the whole panel again. Heres a few shots of the work completed today. I really like the rockers and slides being black.
I need to get new weatherstripping for the rear gate and hatch. I' do a search for that soon.
I still need to sand down the rear gate and hatch. And paint them too. Its almost done.......so close!

Looks great!!

I picked up a couple rattlecans to check possible colors. Think I'll either go with satin dark olive or flat grey. Something easy to touch up after the trail. :hillbilly:

Yea.....that and it was in the low 40s this morning. I was inpatient I think. Shot 10 over on 9holes. Great for me!!

Looking good Alaska60. I remember you now! You changed your avatar and I spaced out on who you were. Anyways, we will have to hang out next year when you come up. Great job BTW.

My old avatar I thought some might find it offensive....being a bull moose humping a bronze statue of a bison!!! We will definatley hook up for some fishing next season.

The green rocks! I have been drifting it in my driftboat in the fall and the fishing is amazing!! Not quite like Alaska but very respectful.

Thats exactly why I am not clear coating. I am not looking for a showroom finish....I just want to fix the issues of rust and have an easy touch up after the trail.:steer:

Well, this is exactly what I'm going to do to mine once I rip the body up with the plasma cutter. It looks FANTASTIC!!

Thats my next purchase.......a plasma cutter. I wish I had one for this job! The cutting wheel worked but....plasma.....ahhhhhhh.

I was truly amazed at how well this turned out.
Moonshine would love you!!!!

I finished out the engine compartment. I like it flat black instead of blue. It looks cleaner....its not 100% but will get touched up cleaner.
I also got around to remounting most of the vents, lights and ect....
Some of the interior door panels cleaned and remounted.
Still working on the rear hatch and gate.
Taking tomorrow off :clap:and finish up on Monday!!!.....Hopefully.
