I'm pretty sure 25.8 gallons.

^this. Shy of 26 gallons is about the volume my 2002 took when the :princess: decided the "E" meant "ehh...I can make it!" -- said She almost literally did make it and was about 50yds from the pump when it sputtered out

1) How did you fit almost 28 gallons in your tank in a SINGLE fill up?

2) How the hell did you get almost 28 gallons for under $100?!

Gas is like $4 here now... :( for mid grade.

Dishonest gas pump owner selling you 0.95 gallon for cost of 1 gallon?
Happens all the time in some places...
Ask for them to recalibrate?

Congratulations! You've probably ruined your charcoal canister that is supposed to scrub fuel fumes. It happens when you fill all the way to the top of the fuel filler neck.

Not recommended practice.

^^ this.

I've had mine "almost full" (i.e. close to top of filler neck - 26 + a little more), but nothing close to 27.

You filled up your 2 gallon fuel jug for the lawn equipment first? I've put 21 gal in my truck, but that was down to 10 miles or so remaining per the trip computer.

Thanks for the advice. I'm a topper offer. I'll never change. And you'll always have quirky quips to add to my threads. So I guess we are both happy. In any case, this isn't the first time I've put this much fuel into the truck. Different stations...highly doubt I'm being scammed. :-/ hope I'm not at least. Truck was running fine when I pulled up to pump. Was on "E" and light was on but it wasn't sputtering out of fuel on me or anything. Oh well. I just thought someone would chime in and tell me the tank has more capacity than they indicate.

I have always topped off all my vehicles as well and I've never had any issues. One was on a Tacoma that I put 284k miles on. Can't top off, can't run down to empty (water settles), guess we better be careful to only utilize the "middle" fuel. LOL

Lol. If I top off, my 4 cylinder 1998 Camry can get me down the road 620 miles before I need to fill up again. Shooting for 400 miles on the LC.

If that was a Gilbarco pump there is a little wheel inside that calibrates the gallon. The state will come by with a "certified" 5 gallon canister and set it but as soon as they leave the owners come out and recalibrate.

I worked 2 summers for the company that had the contract for Arkansas and saw this as an industry norm and expected large adjustments every time. There are a few honest folks left out there but they dont own convenience stores in Arkansas.

Maybe Costco gas is an even better deal than I thought.

I've run out of gas before and it didn't take that much to fill it.

I always pump using the slow fill (first notch) and stop pumping as soon as the pump stops, never topping off

Topping off will not only kill your charcoal canister, but because the pump itself has a vacuum built into the nozzle to reduce vapor lock while pumping, it also sucks up liquid gas as it reaches the nozzle :meh:

If you keep trying to top off your tank, it will actually suck out half the gas you're trying to pump in :o

A buddy of mine didn't believe me, so I proved it to him by pumping 5 gallons into a 5 gallon container using my method and 6.7 gallons worth of gas into another 5 gallon container using his method

Same pump, same station back to back
