Running board trim screws (2 Viewers)

I’m getting ready to replace the running boards on my ‘69 with a pair from a ‘66. I was planning to just drill through the heads of the OE screws and replace them with buttonhead allen screws. I think I read somewhere that you can no longer buy round head screws with the exact same shape.

So my questions are: 1. Are original round head screws still available? And 2: if not, is it really worth the time and effort to try and save the OE ones?

I dont think the original screws are available any more, there is defiantly some close looking ones out there but they are more pan head style. Some older Japanese motorcycles screws have a similar look.

Its a pain im sure you know, especially with the running board screws but I always try to save original hardware.

Those screws seem the hardest for me to remove without ruining them do to the corrosion and relative small size. I like the originality of them and how they look on Tink. I would be interested in any you save.

I swapped all mine out to a #3 Phillips pan head in stainless. A few broke loose a few got drilled and all new stainless went in after the matting on the step was replaced.

I dislike stainless hardware with a passion...but if I recall, I couldn't find bhscs in that size in yellow zinc.
