Running after 3 years sitting from blown HG, new issues

Okay so I got myself up under the thing and finally found that elusive knock sensor #2. I think that wire may have something to do with my problem? You can see the bottom of the wire from this photo and it ends in the same clusterfudge as the rest of the hoses underneath sensor 2. You can see the end of that line smack in the middle of this photo crinkled up going into the ribbed hoses. Sensor 2 in bottom right corner

I can't tell if rear the knock sensor is connected or not, but I'm thinking the wire you showed disconnected is the primary ground strap that should be attached the block. Without it, you will have all sorts of problems and possibly damage something electrical. In this photo, the ground strap is shown. It comes directly from the battery in a bundle with the starter wire which is also shown. The ground strap is bolted to the block. If this isn't attached I would not try to start it again until it is.

2 more photos of that disconnected line....1st pic is looking down on it. 2nd picture shows it kind of crimped in the middle going up towards the left, the smaller line to the right of the middle is connected to Sensor #2.

In your picture it is in the group of hoses directly to the right of where you've typed "GROUND STRAP". I think it's the one that is coming out of the middle of that cluster and going kind of up to the right connected under that shiny little plate with the 2 bolts. What is that connection there?

I am about 90% sure that the wire that you have disconnected is the primary negative wire that should be bolted to the block as shown in my picture. To determine for sure, you need to manually, with your hands find the big wires coming off the battery. Then follow the big wire down with your hands until you find the loose connector, it should be about 24" down there. It must be bolted to the engine under the bolt where I circled ground strap. If you continue to follow that wire with your hands/eyes you will eventually reach the starter and the large plastic cover thing that covers it to protect it.

I'm not sure what shiny plate you are referring to.

You can easily damage circuits without this large wire hooked up. Electricity will find a path some other way and burn things out when you try to run the starter.

Nope that bolt you are talking about, under sensor 1, with the connection to the right of it? Mine looks just like that, I followed the big wires off the battery and it has that connected just like in your photo to the right of the bolt

Am not sure then. I remember that particular wire from when I pulled and reinstalled the engine, but I am not sure where it hooks up. It must be a ground wire.

Nope.

Thats the one. The lack of that ground strap could be causing some odd issues. Proper ground for all the electrical components attached. I don't know where the wire you circled is connected, it goes up under the manifold somewhere.

I think it goes to the rear knock sensor.

No it's not connected to the rear knock sensor. It's a ground wire, so I should be able to make it have contact with head and be alright, right? I put it on there with this bolt holding the dipstick bracket.

That will work for now. if you find a bolt that you can use in the original location, that's ideal, but hopefully this will take care of your odd running issues. Lack of good ground to sensors, injectors, etc... can cause some strange problems.
