Yup. Pre Aussie.

I was testing out the trail worthiness of an M416. I had 700 pounds of sand in the bed for ballast.

sand, the new expedition cargo

Do you have a spot or area in mind for where to camp? Ive heard that Schnebly Hill Rd was a good place?

Depending how far you want to go, I rises up to about 6400' from 4500 in Sedona

Don't know of any immediate places but rumors are that a few interested folks going have some idea where to camp.

I spoke with the Red Rock Ranger district the other day to check if there are any special permits needed to camp off Schnebly Hill Rd and nothing is needed other than camping in designated areas only.

I also inquired about parking any trailers before going on the trail and as long as the trailer is parked in a designated area there is no issue.

Id like to avoid the "designated" camping spots. I think Phil has mentioned he has camped in the area and prolly knows a good spot? I remember camping in the forest off Schnebly within a handful of miles off I-17.

I think the ranger is referring to the Red Rock Pass ($5.00)

Good spot:rolleyes: I dont know.....

Schnebly Hill Rd from Sedona to I-17 is approximately 12 miles long.
At the 8 mile point just past the Vista overlook you reach peak elevation of ~6500'.
There are 2 optional side roads FR153A goes to the left but drops some in elevation. On the right is FR801 and it will gain another ~400' in elevation with in a mile. At one point in time you could continue on the FR801 and come out onto I-17 within a couple miles.:meh:

6500' is about the same elevation as Munds Park. I just talked to a friend that left there this morning and the temp 53° at 6AM.

Schnebly Hill dumps off on I-17 about 3-4 miles south of Munds Park. There is quite a bit dispersed camping along Mormon Lake Rd between Munds Park and Mormon Lake.

In talking to Rudster, he suggests we should open this run up to all Land Crusier enthusiasts ( I think all runs are, right!?). I will throw out an invitation to the AZTLCA guys and some non-members (of either club) that have just got into LC's.

All good folks with the same interests :steer:

I'd be interested, but am not certain I'm a 'qualified' member yet.

Haven't paid my dues yet.

How do I confirm my status?

Ron,
Based on my experience, membership and participation is very selective and many applicants are rejected :p. In order to become a member you will need to fill out the online application-
http://www.copperstatecruisers.com/application.html
and to be accepted you need to own a Toyota or at least speak favorably of them in public.
Sign up in advance or just show up to an event. The most important thing is to have a positive attitude.

Count me in for this one. I'm a new member and not certain if I qualify - Haven't paid my dues yet.

I drive a 4Runner with OME lifts, 4Plus products skid plates and sliders, 33" BFG's, and ARB rear locker.

Funner,
THanks for the advice. Based on your input, I should qualify for participation.

I'll show up at the 4Sons Chevron Station on I-17 & Carefree on the 20dth.

Look for the 4Runner with the 'Sandcat' license plate.

Regards, Sandcat

No sweat. You qualify. I have been wheeling with this guy, and his son, for years. John

I have camp off of 1-17 and Schnebly in an area where they had the Sedonafest back in 2011...Where we camped you can actually hear the 18 wheelers come down I -17.

He's got one of the nicest built Gen 5 4Runners Ive seen. Good guy - Ill see you there SandCat

I am thinking of trying to meet the group in Sedona. Is there a time and place that could be agreed for a second group meet up in Sedona?
I am planing to get a room in Sedona on Friday, wine and dine the :princess: and then meet the group in Sedona and drive back to PHX after the run.

I like staying at the Airport Inn. Ain't the fanciest place in town, but it is affordable, and the view is perfect. Walk out of your room and you are on the top of the cliff above the south side of Sedona looking across the valley right at the red cliffs on the north side. Sunsets and sunrises are just fantastic from this vantage point. John

Late coming in the discussion but had to make sure work schedule was clear. Count me in. Funner, I might be right there with you if the lady goes. At this point, it's a solo trip. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
