Looking at trying to build a headlight replacement to put a round headlight where our square lights are. Like a 7in round in a bezel that would bolt into our factory hole. Has anyone done a CAD drawing of the 100's headlight that I could get. I'm not good at fabricating so this will be trial and error until it looks right. Any help would be great I'm tired of crappy headlights.

there was a japanese company selling retro kits for the ujz 100... which included round headlights in a flat plastic housing. Looked "different", but I liked em. Word was the kit was very pricy. can't remember the name of the company... point is, you might be able to use it as a template....

edit- found a pic...

We need someone to build headlight buckets. I want this mod as well.

Search retro front end on mud 100 series.

There are vendors/people on this site that have the skills to get this done. :)

Maybe we could 3 d print them.

At the right price point, the TOYOTA grill and headlight buckets would sell like hot cakes. The buckets should not be that difficult once we have a mold.

I don't know about this......factory lighting systems are highly integrated with can shape/reflective properties/heat resistance/dissipation. This would require serious engineering effort and/or prototyping. Especially considering the trend to brighter, legal lights.

Will follow....

yeah I'd much rather have a set of depo blackout headlights

I hated the dough boy looking emblem on mine so I cut out a Toyota script out of metal, painted it and epoxied it on my grill. I'm still dinking around with the headlight bucket though, I think it is just out of my realm of ability but I do have access to a 3D printer.

If you made the bucket to accept a standard 7" round headlamp you would have a slew of options which are DOT approved, and would drop right in.

Wranglers use 7" round headlamps, as do pretty much anything else you see with a round beam.

With all due respect, but what's the point? Maybe it's me that form has to follow function and I just don't see any function to that.
Now swapping out the headlights with LED's would be form following function since one could be a brighter light with less energy.

This is not an uncommon swap on other makes and models that had a poverty package/ base model available with round headlights in foreign markets. With regard to function, a 7" headlight is much easier to find in case of a repair and much cheaper to buy than factory housings. Aside from that, there are a myriad of choices, from high quality LED setups like JW Speaker to the ultimate in HID setups like the Hella Bi-Xenon 7" projector housing. It doesn't hurt that the g-wagen and JKs still run them. How much of that will really factor into a person's decision to do that swap versus "I like the look" is debatable, but the LC front end could use some aesthetic help, IMO.

The company is Flex Dream and I visited them a couple months ago, specifically to ask about those round eyes:

It took some effort and Google Translate, but eventually it was clear that they are NOT interested in selling these headlight adaptations as a product, and only do it to sell vehicles. I am awaiting some material to dabble with a grill, and will be looking into the headlights as well this winter. I make no promises beyond the fact I am interested, trying, and will post results here and on my instagram (@Land.shark.outfitters) to gauge opinions and potential to be a marketable product.

FWIW I was able to look pretty closely at their setups and do not believe this to be as hard as the KISS Drawers were. I might be wrong, but then again I might be right ;)

Polar Bear is a total posser movil..

But if I was traveling around the world a round headlight that can be found pretty much in any corner of the world (maybe not the exact same one but adaptable with basic hand tools)

Will be a big advantageous, plus they do look much better too..

For me it is largely about the ability to upgrade and tweak - the current setup looks real good, but dang is it a PITA to try something new. 7" rounds are *everywhere* in a ton of styles and configurations, and I love modifying my vehicles, I always have ;)

Okay, you got me. I'll call UNCLE on that. Having a 7" round could have its advantages. Although, I personally will probably still (someday) prefer an LED upgrade to my stock lights. Unless someone literally "hammers" them out or some crazy electrical short, the LED's will probably last forever and it doesn't take too much space to keep a couple extra lights in the glove box if one is that concerned about not finding them out in the boonies.

I mean, it would be an ABS plastic housing right? I know work involved getting them initially. Would they come as just a housing and you pick your own lights? Couple hundred bucks for a pair might be about as far as I would go. How much are aftermarket headlight assemblies? (Just checked....ebay stuff is a couple hundred bucks for a set of reflector housings). I dunno man. What do you think?
