Round headlight in a square hole.

I'm going to finish my round light design. I have put it off for 2 years now and I'm going to complete it. Been obsessed with grilles, so it's been on the back burner. Shouldn't take long to complete it, hopefully by dec. although my design might look lame:bang: we shall see. Has a pretty cool feature that is appealing, hopefully it won't suck!!:p

It's really cool that so many people with 100's are building things by hand. It's kinda old fashioned, like it was back in the old days when nobody ordered crap built overseas. It's special, and a small community that is rare to find.

Now if either or both of you decide to make a grill that holds after market driving/flood/combo lights, I'm totally in. But don't see the appeal of round headlights unless I get better lumens, etc.

I might be wrong on the 3k but it's what's stuck in my head, if you find the original threads in this forum or the 80 you can double check, but yes, it was just the front grill & headlights, not wheels or anything else.

So sit tight, either @kelly saad or myself will transform your rigs into proper Gaijin! (trademark pending :] - you know, a foreigner with round eyes)

Yea, if I remember it was @hoser who posted the price, but I may be wrong. $3k to $3.5 is what I remember.

The Flexdream retro grill for the 100 was presented by ExtremeLandCruiser in SoCal who was hoping to import the
kit from Japan with a price of 3K. Flexdream declined to export the kit and will apparently only do the conversion
at their home facility (in Japan). The price was for only for the grill and headlight fixture. The bumpers/wheels etc were not included.
I have to admit I would pay a big price just for those wheels/hubcaps!

So if Kelly Saad can come up with something similar, I am interested!

I have a fog light option for my current 80 and 100 grilles. I only have one built (the small light version) but I do have the file made for the large light option so I need to get one cut to test fit. My new smooth front 100 grille is being made now too, I will implement the lights into that also. I can have a panrl made to fit specific lights if you have some, no problem.

I do hear you with your opinion on changing over to round. There really is no point other than cosmetics. Unless the aftermarket options for FJ Cruiser headlights offer better illumination?? In that case it might be worth it, don't know.

Have to disagree Kelly, there's one really, really big point: options. Yes options for cosmetics, but also options for brighter or different tech, and MUCH easier than trying to hack our housings. AND options for easy replacements when in Patagonia, or some other far flung locale. That's not high on many people's lists, but it is on mine, so a standard 7" housing and bulb is very desirable...

Always been a huge fan of this. It would take a lot to get me to ditch my retrofit projectors, but a round look just for fun might do it at some point... The $3k is ridiculous, and they mentioned the same price when I spoke with FlexDream on Instagram.

Thanks Dave! Yea, that's kinda what I was saying with the aftermarket FJ options. I'm just not pushing it, but you are right. I think I'm on the same page for the most part.

With my grilles business, I have heard comments that they are a cosmetic upgrade, and it's not really important. I completely and respectfully agreed this was true in the beginning, and wanted nothing more than a facelift at that time. Now, I have several owners reporting lower coolant temps in the 80 series due to increased air flow. This is a big deal for 80 owners! So, now I have some evidence that the grille is not only a cosmetic upgrade, but a beneficial, durable and diverse part (still evolving) not only lowering coolant temps; in addition can house a variety of lights and a trans cooler, or whatever can bolt onto it. This long example  is why I will not push the headlight topic as anything more than cosmetic, as the opinions of us all may differ, and rightfully so. Once the product is on some vehicles, them we can accurately determine the additional benefits beyond lipstick. However, I may disagree, cosmetics are everything;)

I know that many high quality FJ Cruiser light assemblies already exist, that's why I thought it was a great choice. Also, they are 7" and readily available most anywhere I would assume. Somebody tell me to shut up already!! :bang: I write too much nonsense.

I would be very interested in one of these. If you make them, please don't do it just for the FJ Cruiser headlights. Please...make them for the good old 7" round headlight so I can put some nice Hella H4's in there. Cheap, good light pattern, bulb options.....Please.
